Decent Place

I have not been living at Avalon too long, but I do have a few comments in regard to the other reviews. I almost did not take a lease here because of these reviews, and I wanted to respond to a few things mentioned. First, my experience with the management has been absolutely wonderful. I looked at many other apartments in the area, and their standards for management, maintenance, etc. are much lower than at Avalon. The management in the office has been extremely professional, honoring all of their commitments and deals, even when they could have easily made some additional money. My apartment was freshly painted and spotless when I moved in.
As far as the condition of the building, they have repainted sections of the hallway on my floor twice in the last three weeks, and most things are well maintained. It is true that the elevators are very slow, and the garage gates are often broken. However, the stairs are more than adequate for most people(It is only 4 floors), and downtown bellevue is one of the safer neighborhoods on the eastside. Yes, the building is not built to condo standards, but the construction is FAR better than almost every other apartment building in downtown bellevue. Noise problems are almost unheard of amongst my neighbors.
As far as faulting management for not providing air conditioners, give me a break. In all apartment buildings, windows are limited due to the high-density of the construction. The apartment comes without an air conditioner, so just buy one if you please. Management cannot change the construction on the building! On the flip side, heating costs are quite low due to more than adequate insulation. The apartments here are wonderful, with 9 foot ceiling in most, many have gas fireplaces, beautifully styled kitchens with black appliances, track lighting, etc. Avalon offers a much better apartment than many of its competitors. I guess the only negative here is that avalon is a tad bit expensive compared to the market for a similar unit. But the superior management and building should make up for most of the difference.
