I like it!

My move in experience was very good. I was able to get a month and a half of free rent, and due to the housing market, the monthly rent has come back down a bit ($995 for a 2 bedroom/2 bath). I was able to get moved in the next day, and chose it primarily because it was a 2 minute drive to MS Redwest Campus where I work. Also, as a MS employee, I didn?t have to pay a regular deposit (just a pet deposit for my cat).
I do have a washer and dryer, I?ve had no problems with them or any other major appliances.
My "guest" bathroom toilet runs a little slow (I have to hold the handle down), and I did have to call maintenance to fix it once when it overflowed (mostly because I never got around to buying a plunger, and made the mistake of holding the handle down too long). It was after hours, and a I have another bathroom, but they came to look at it anyway because I was concerned about the overflowing.
The office and maintenance staff has always been very polite to me, and have acted on my requests (a burned out light in my carport, etc...) in a timely manner.
The water is green because (I asked about this) they treat it with something the keep the mosquito element away. It is also safe and natural (won?t hurt plants, ducks, etc...), so while it may look a bit like a St. Patrick?s Day celebration, I personally prefer it over the thought of being carried away by a herd of mosquitos.
The property has at least two pools and hot tubs, so if one has a problem, you could use another one (I did this when the hot tub near me was having problems).
I did have a problem with the neighbors upstairs being incredibly loud. This went on for so long because I didn?t want to be "that kind of neighbor" (intolerant of other people?s living noises), but when friends and family assured me that yelling on the deck and playing soccer indoors in the middle of the night were not regular living noises, I was thankful to have the 24 hour security (who will go to the apartment in question and tell them to be quiet, leaving you anonymous). When it happened again, I finally notified the office, who spoke to them that day, and told me if they had to speak to them twice more, they could be evicted. When I suggested mentioning that the noisy neighbors might be better suited for a ground floor apartment, the office said that they could help them transfer apartments if that?s what they wanted to do. Since they spoke to the neighbors, it?s been 1000% quieter, and I only hear an occassional sound (like someone walking or dropping something).
I wouldn?t say the apartments are energy efficient (I have drafty windows, but the complex is kind of old), but I budgeted for it over the winter, and my bills were $50-60 a month during winter. I also invested in a down comforter, so I wouldn?t need to turn the heat on all night.
Residents have to pay water/sewage/garbage, which more apartments on the eastside seem to be doing these days. Those bills are about $40 a month for 1 person in a 2bed/2ba (thats how the company calculates it, occupants + apartment size).
I like it here, and will probably stick around for a while. For me the slightly higher utility expenses were worth giving up the (sometimes hour long) commute from Queen Anne. My auto and renters insurance rates both dropped when I moved as well - so I actually came out about even.
