Overlook At Lakemont
< | >
My family gives our stamp of approval. We love it here. I too was told of this website by the office staff, and would like to say to some of the recent people that have posted bad reviews, ( you sound like the same person ) that if everyone was unhappy here, why would the Overlook be telling all of the residents about this website' Wouldnt EVERYONE write a bad review'
The overlook at lakemont is a beautiful community and we have been teated very fair by both maintenance and office people. It is my pleasure to write a reveiw on their behalf!

Obviously, you did not bother reading all of the reviews. In case you hadn't noticed, many of the reviews that give high marks (including yours) make little or no note of the very things that most of the negative reviews have complained about. You have lived at the Overlook for less than a year, yet have nothing but compliments for it. Well, when I first moved in, I also had very little to complain about. Over time, I discovered that it wasn't a "great" community. By no means am I claiming it to be a horrible community, and I think my review ("Looks nice, but it's not that great") was very fair (not to mention complete--I spent a lot of time writing it). Even the user that posted a comment on my review was very thorough.
I can assure you that I am not responsible for any of the other reviews for the Overlook (which includes the reviews on the other entry for it "on Village Park Dr Se"). I have never even posted a review or comments for any of the communities I've lived in previously, but this place really did get on my nerves after a while.
If you actually take the time to read my review, you can see that I was very honest and candid about my experience. I have no ill-will toward the staff or the community and hold no grudges, so I'm not on a quest for vengeance here, but I do want others to have a realistic "overlook" on the living conditions there. Of course, if the office staff is advertising this site to tenants, I have to wonder if you're getting something out of the deal (such as reduced rent) for providing them with a positive review. Reading some of the 5.0 reviews, it would not surprise me in any way if they were submitted by the staff in guise as regular tenants, as I know for a fact that it happens quite a lot. This is the largest site on the Internet for apartment ratings, and I have talked with the staff at many communities about their ratings on here--they ALL know about it, and they do what they can to ensure that they have good reviews. Some will cheat by posting positive reviews to offset the not-so-positive ones, and some will actually take the time and effort to improve upon the things their current and former tenants have complained about. During my tenancy there, I can't tell you a single tenant that I ever talked to that had zero complaints.
Now, it's very important to note that the whole 0-5 rating system is not infallable--for those of us who have lived at a number of managed communities before, we will tend to provide less-than-stellar ratings, 'cause while we're accustomed to having to deal with various issues, we know better than to simply dismiss them--the management will not fix a problem if they think they can get away with it. This site exists not only to let others know how life is there; it's also a way to let the management know they need to fix things before they do run their rating into the ground.
Again referring to my review, they do have their good traits, and I made careful note of those. Unlike the commenter to my review, I actually like the new colors, even if the painters didn't do a great job and took much, much longer to get it done than they should have. Each renter will have different experiences, and you should not be so quick to dismiss their reviews just because you haven't (or haven't yet) encountered the same problems. The same goes for the all-negative reviews: it's not a terrible place to live, and the grounds are well-maintained (though, the dog owners who don't clean up after their pets really do need to be reprimanded, 'cause it's against the law not to, and the tenants who do/did clean up after their dogs, like myself, as well as those who don't have dogs really appreciate not having to step in dog poop).
These reviews should be realistic and not purely complimentary or derogatory. I really wish the operators of this site would give the ability to rate the reviews themselves (like on sites such as Amazon). Because of the brevity of this review and its lack of much useful information, I would give it a 2. I mean, come on...it's 6 sentences. I have more than that in the first paragraph of this response.
For my final note before stepping off my soapbox, you say that "you sound like the same person," referring to the recent bad reviews. I'm not sure if you took note of this, but the recent positive (5.0) reviews look more like the same person (or group of people, moreso) than any two of the negative ones. All the 5.0 reviews say the same thing: "I love it here," "The staff is great," "What's with all the bad reviews?" Again--effort. Tell others WHY it's a beautiful community and HOW you've been treated fairly by the office and maintenance staff.

Staff is great -- massive misinformation. I have had communication ignored for weeks on end. They are prompt with renewal notices though, even send you cheap meaningless gifts with their renewal notices. But these are about the only gives.
