I've been living at Summerfield Apartment Homes for the past several years, and I feel there has been a decline in the living situation here slowly but surely.

Pool: There was one, it was GREAT in the summer. Now it's been filled with concrete for a BBQ area that I do not wish to use. Why bring all your BBQ stuff down and have to share it with other partiers, when you can BBQ on your patio/balcony with privacy and convenience. They claimed the pool was taken away for liability reasons, I know it was taken away because of the cost to maintain..what a shame..it was a major selling point for Summerfield.

Laundry Room: I'll admit...the new washers and dryers work great. Although I'm not a fan of HE machines as they just don't wash clothes as good as the non-HE machines. However my biggest gripe is...we went from $1 wash and 75 cent dry...to $1.50 wash and $1.50 dry...that's a 150% increase on washing and 200% increase on drying. The only plus side is that due to the new rise in cost, I noticed people are not washing their clothes as often...so the machines tend to be more available. However, due to the lack of many tenants (and/or non tenants) ability to read english...powdered soap is constantly being found breaking the machines (despite the signs up). Also I have a sneaking suspicion that the nearby Temple (scratch that I've caught them) goers are using the laundromat because certain residents are propping the door open for them. Also it would be nice if there was a change machine as well..finding rolls of quarters every week is a huge hassle.

Parking: A lot available in the back. Some visitor in the front, but expect the same two families to be constantly taking them all. You do get one slot, occasionally you will find them taken by visitors who either don't know...or don't care that it's a reserved spot. Very disrespectful of your neighbors to not let their visitors know not to park in your spot...especially when it happens regularly.

Neighbors: Lot of families...some kids noisy, others not so much. They aren't noisy at night. In the morning on weekends they can be quite annoying if you were planning to sleep in past 9-10 though (the walls are thin). In general most neighbors are nice, but they keep to themselves. There is a lot of diversity at Summerfield, I myself am a minority, but the diverse people who live at Summerfield are not exactly buddy-buddy with each other...considering that for most of them English is their second language. Some of the ethnic cooking can get quite pungent in the summer. And the fact that a lot of these neighbors never open their windows/doors...the smells can enter your apartment if/when you live above them...and about 8/10 times it's very unpleasant.

Maintenance: They are very quick to fix things that needs to get fixed, but keep in mind...it will never be a replacement, just a quick fix. I.e. if something cracks..rather than replace it..they'll just screw it on with ugly screws showing, but hey it keeps it in place.

Staff: Generally very friendly. There is a new apartment manager, she seems nice. Hopefully she is more available than the past manager.

Apartment: I keep my apartment clean, it's basic, I have plenty of room, and I don't feel like there is mold & mildew or bug problems...but again...I keep my place clean. So i'm happy with it.

Overall: Summerfield is an okay place to live. There are some nuances that are extremely annoying, but I deal with it..because...well no place is perfect and at what I pay..i'm willing to deal with it...I however do wish a lot of the problems (which are due to the residents and not summerfield itself) would get solved....YWCA has recently turned Summerfield apartments into Low Income Housing...and with that comes it's own share of problems. Summerfield is about a 3/5 star for me. maybe 2.5

The Ywca bought the Summerfield in 2005. The pool was filled in for the reason that Liability was an issue. Also, a play ground was put in for the children. The YWCA is a non-profit organization, a big difference from the money mongrals! The rents are kept low and the property is well maintained. The washers and dryers before were constantly not working which caused huge inconvenience. The new machines are new and are maintained every week. The costs did go up but what doesn't, they are much more effiecient. The maintenance is addressed quickly and promtly. Things are replaced as need be. The tenants are lucky to be so spolied!! The manager before was parttime of over three years. She loved her tenants and keep a good tight ship! The Manager now is fulltime. There are a percentage of low income as the Y helps many people in need. That is their mission and goal. There is no difference in type of people, some have more money and some have less! My opinion is that the person who wrote the last review, needs to be moving on! Try to find a better place to live for the same amount of money!?
