Cheap, but comfortable

There are various ups and downs to this apartment complex:

UPS
- I like the management staff. They were very friendly and helpful when I moved in. I don't really interact with them on a daily basis, but they are courteous anytime I walk into the leasing office.

- Flexible. Willing to work with your pets and other requirements you may have.

- The grounds are very well kept. Peaceful community atmosphere.

- Only a few blocks to the main MS campus (biggest selling point for me, I can walk/bike when the weather is nice).

DOWNS
- The issue with the rusty pipes is true. Upon turning on a faucet it usually outputs rusty water. After 30 seconds or so, the water is clear. I use a brita filter for cooking, so I'm not that upset about it.

- Some apartments do get very hot during the summer (mine in particular). With a couple of fans, cold glasses of water it's not too bad. Just don't do anything strenuous inside (vacuuming will make you break a sweat in no time).

- My particular apartment smelled very strongly of cigarrette smoke. I asked them to steam clean the carpet, but they only did the high traffic areas. I had to clean the rest of it myself. I think this problem is due to my downstairs neighbor (the smell is smoke is strong even outside), but still, it shouldn't impregnate another apartment. This is my biggest gripe, but I realize it's not a common problem.

Conclusion' I'm comfortable in these apartments, but my main criteria was price and location (these are the least expensive apartments close to the main MS campus). I have a feeling after a couple of years, I'll move elsewhere so I don't deal with the downsides of this complex, but I would probably recommend Timberwood as a good starting point.
