You get what you pay for

I have read a lot of negative reviews about this apartment complex here, and yes, there are a lot of drawbacks, but there are some good points too. I have lived here for about 7 months and I think this place really exemplifies that you get what you pay for. For this area, the rent is really good for what you get, and the apartments are spacious.

Parking can be a little tight from time to time, but I've never not been able to find a parking space, I've just had to walk a little farther than I wanted. My neighbors are friendly, but pretty much stick to themselves. I love having the fitness center on-site. I use it pretty regularly and see a few other regulars as well. Plus, the location is really great.

However, there are a few problems. My main complaints are: noise, insulation, and smell. The walls are actually pretty good at blocking noise, but the floor/ceiling and doors are paper thin. Therefore, I can hear everything happening in the hallway as if it were in my apartment (I am not exaggerating), and I can also hear every move my neighbors above me make. Thankfully I don't have terribly noisy neighbors.

The insulation is by far the biggest issue I have. The windows are single pane and very thin, so all heat in the apartment escapes, and the heaters aren't that effective to begin with. Because the windows are so thin, I get ridiculous condensation build up on the inside of my windows, which causes all sorts of mold to grow in my window sills. I open my bedroom window every day, all day, to let the moisture evaporate, but it returns every morning. And in the winter, it froze on the inside of my window. Also, because the windows are so thin, if people are being noisy outside or passing by with a loud car stereo, you can hear it very well. Although, I will say that isn't a very common occurence.

So, the elevators smell like piss. I'm not sure why, but I just don't use them. The hallways smell like stale food (yes, usually curry). This is because there is no air circulation in the hallways. For fire code reasons, the hallway doors must remain closed at all times, so all those smells just get trapped, and if you have your window open (which of course I always do because of the aforementioned condensation), it just gets sucked right into your place. I keep some deoderizing air spray nearby and that usually takes care of it. Or I'll just prop the hallway door open if I can find a rock until someone (I never know who!) takes it out.

In summary, this place isn't terrible, it's just not that great either. Yes, there is a large Indian community here, but unless you are racist, I'm not really sure why that's an issue. My neighbor has a small child, and sometimes I see kids out playing, usually with their parents, but I haven't seen any of these reckless, unsupervised children rasing hell around the complex as other reviewers have noted. I do plan on moving out when my lease expires, but if I couldn't afford to, I could imagine living here for another year or so. Oh, one last thing - you pay utilies, but only electricity is based on your usage. You're going to pay around $50/month for water/sewer/garbage regardless of your usage.
