If you cannot afford anywhere else to live, this is your place.

As the title says you should only consider moving to live place if you have no others options. (Please forgive the grammar and run-on sentences I have not placed much effort in that here as I m not that passionate about it)
I have lived here for about 2 years and they have issued 2 day notices to enter my apartment every few weeks, and lately with the construction of new buildings they do it every week or so. It is not simply an issue caused by construction which has been handled with absolutely NO considerations for the tenants as they are hammering and using heavy machinery on the weekends past the time people get home from work and block the driveway when you re trying to get out to work. However the problem of them entering all the time was even here before construction.
I had thought oh well perhaps they are just wanting to take very good care of the building yet when I moved in there was several issues including mold and a corner of the bathroom floor that sagged due to water damage, after a year of complaining they told me they just did work under the building in the basement area that should alleviate the mold issue, I when out myself and bought the stuff to clean the bedroom I hadn t felt comfortable using as even after cleaning it mold spores would show all over the walls especially in colder areas such as the closet.
I was ready to leave when last my lease ended however I had a baby boy due any day and since I have moved to Seattle from far away I had no help to move. The management promised they were going to replace windows that would make mold less of an issue and new front doors, they also offered a reduced rent price(not by a lot) if I renewed as they knew the installation of the windows and door would be inconvenient. Well right as my baby was born and we brought him home they were doing construction to the entire facility, replacing side molding and starting construction of new buildings. I was NOT informed this would be happening prior to renewing my lease and therefore was now stuck with a new born in a apartment where they were constantly making noise with hammers, air compressors and heavy machinery they tore my porch off and just stuffed all my items into the storage locker then dug a huge ditch, I see this as a reduction of square footage I was paying for but whatever (wonder if that is legal).
I have worked in companies before where higher ups make stupid decisions that only focus on profit and take no consideration of our customer s happiness and that is what s happening here. I do not blame the staff they may seems abrasive but I m sure that s a defense mechanism from dealing with so many tenants and so many attitudes (good or bad). I am sure someone in a position of authority within Essex property trust had planned this out and has a boss once told me when commenting on renting property Turnover is good it just needs to be managed, getting people to leave and moving in people who will pay higher rents is a way to improve profit. I cannot help but think they went to the same business school'
In short, if you care very little about pleasantries such as having a sense of privacy and being provides a comfortable environment by the landlord you pay rent to, this is your place. I happen to care more about feeling I have some privacy and a management staff that cares that tenants feel happy. I know some people perhaps singles simply don t care about these things or other may focus on the savings over alternatives that they can deal with it and there is nothing wrong with that but be warned this will be a horrible place to live if not.
