You win some, you lose some

I would recommend seeing the actual unit you will be renting before making a deposit/signing a lease. There are three different layouts, which largely affects the size of rooms, and some apartments have new carpet, others not.
When my roommate and I came to sign our lease, we found that the carpets in our apartment were VERY badly stained, and looked horrible even after a thorough cleaning. The landlord had just noticed that day that the fridge was damaged and needed to be replaced, which it was the next day. They also immediately replaced an old light fixture and a problem with the toilet. The only thing they never got to was replacing the bathroom flooring, which is old and warped. We are partially responsible for that because we never reminded them. We were also told that the previous tenets had not returned their keys, and if they didn't return them by three the next day the locks would be replaced. This means, however, that if they did return them, the same locks would be used. CHUCKANUT PROPERTY MANAGEMENT DOES NOT REPLACE LOCKS BETWEEN TENETS. This means those there before you could have made 500 copies for their friends to come in your apartment after they move out. You have to pay to have them changed yourself.
The positives: very large layout (we are in one of the end units with no laundry room, so our rooms are a bit bigger), landlords are very nice and responsive, most of the families that live here are in building A, so if you are in B or C there is not much noise from kids
Negatives: Unless you luck out by having someone leave a washer and dryer in your unit, you have to have your own, or pay a two dollars a load for onsite laundry. Plumbing is pretty loud if you are on the first or second floor. Toilet flushing sounds like niagara falls, I am so used to it now, however, that it doesn't bother me. There is not enough parking, even for those who live there. I used to have a lot of problems with people parking in my reserved spot because it was not well marked, this would happen a few times a week. They need to be better about checking for parking passes.
