I lived at Archstone Canyon Creek for 3 1/2 years. My rent was $990, two months before my lease was up they sent me a notice saying that if I wanted to renew my lease for another year it would be $500 MORE per month. I emailed them asking them why the major increase and they responded with "people are willing to pay it".

I went down to the office to give my 20 day notice to move out and asked them how to get my deposit back. When I was talking to the associate she had my lease in her hands and was looking at it. She gave me a list of things to do. We cleaned and only had $50 in charges. I was expecting the other $250 back. Once I was gone I got a bill for charges. I asked them why and they said that they are not responsible for what associates tell the tenants, as long as it's in the lease. She had my lease in front of her and she still gave me the wrong information.

The water bills were never correct. One month I had a $60 water bill then the next it was over $300. When I called to ask why they said to just pay it and when they figured it out they would deduct it off our next months rent. That's a lot of money! For several months our water bills were incorrect.

The people at the front office were never polite and every time I had to call for our water bill (because it never came in the mail) they gave me incorrect amounts. When I called for my final months rent amount they misinformed me again. Don't trust their math skills! They had to call us 4 times because every time they told us an amount I called and said it was wrong.

I got a noise complaint for cleaning my apartment at 10pm, but the complex cleaned the apartment above me when my neighbors moved out at 6am! They cleaned it multiple days in a row at 6am. They don't follow their own rules.

Only move there if you are desperate, and be prepared for major rent hikes. Also don't expect to use the exercise area's, they are usually broken. They closed the hot tub, but the pools are nice. It is the worst apartment that I personally have lived in.

Be aware that in Washington State the holding fee MUST be turned into either $$ of your first month rent or a security deposit, according to the RCW: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=59.18.253 We recently notified Archstone of the same information after a similar abuse. You can bill them for the difference between the damages and your SECURITY DEPOSIT (since I'm sure you never got that discount on your first month's rent, either, just like us). They also lied to us about the purposes of our fees, and did not apply them to damages. We paid over $1100 in fees (over $700 in pet fees), and none of it was counted against our damages, despite being told by Archstone employees that paying for potential damage was the purpose of the fees.

Archstone spends more time on making sure the shrubs are trimmed than they do keeping folks happy. It's starting to go down hill, anybody else notice that there is a seedy element happening now? Large families, flop apartments with who knows how many people. It's really getting creepy!
