Please read the lease carefully before signing. My roommate flaked out and hasn't paid rent for 6 months, and my apartment has been broken into several times and my car has been broken into. I've tried to terminate the lease because I can't afford to keep paying by myself, and I can't afford any more break ins. I've talked to the rental office and to headquarters, and their take is "it's your problem, just pay your rent". Even though my roommate signed the lease too, I'm stuck paying the rent for both of us. I just paid rent for the month and moving out, and I'm still stuck with the apartment, they won't end the lease until the last day of the lease. That means my roommate gets a free ride for another month. Reading their lease you'll see that it's a win win for them, and a lose lose for you if you sign the lease. It was bad enough having to put up with the noise above us from the family with the little kids, but to keep having your apartment broken into and to pay to live there, is ridiculous!
Be aware that you will be requested to pay a couple of hundred dollars for a nonrefundable administrative fee to apply to lease. It's not applied to anything, and if you have to wait more than 10 days to move in you have to pay it again. Think twice and twice again before moving into any Archstone complex.

i agree with you 100%... we were charged $400 for painting the apartment and cleaning the carpets when we moved out! i would like to see who they paid $400 to to do those two simple things. This place was a nightmare from day one and we broke our lease as well... it was the worst decision we ever made moving into archstone and the entire leasing office is a bunch of liars and they will not treat you with any kind of respect at all.... they guarentee customer service but once you sign that lease you are a piece of ---- to them...
