My husband and I have lived in the Avalon Rockmeadow Apartments just shy of 4 years now.
We are a young couple who have lived in college/student housing (keep this in mind as you read on- college apartments are loud, a bit stinky and a mess off or on campus.) We never came across these issues or any issue in college/student housing off or on campus.

We were first re-located on the property due to the smell of cigarette smoke. The people below smoked in all areas of their apartment. Due to the incredibly poor construction of the apartments at Avalon Rockmeadow the smells seeped up and in. At first we thought we were being overly sensitive- then people started coming over and making comments. It took Avalon 3 months of me bringing up my health issues caused by cigarettes and smoke for me (threatening to get a doctors note) to move us. They moved us and now we are paying MORE money. We are now in our second apartment at Avalon Rockmeadow. The problems are non stop and the cheapness of the structures is painfully obvious. We are now dealing with extremely loud neighbors above us and people who enjoy cigarettes and pot in their apartment on a regular basis, beside us. The noise issue above us is ridiculous and has been non stop for 4 months now. Management is being incredibly unreliable and unhelpful. We first started pounding on the ceiling and the noise grew. We called the leasing office and they directed us to the security company Avalon contracts with. The noise grew even more. We then get a phone call from the [5th manager in 3 years] at Avalon Rockmeadow, basically asking us to stop calling security. There was also a huge disconnect between the security company, Avalon and the extremely loud people above us. The security company had been reporting a mechanical noise and we had been reporting loud hammering, shaking of our dishes, shifting of our pictures on the wall, running from one end of the apartment to the next, etc. non-stop starting between 6 & 7PM and continuing on until 1 or 2:30AM.

We are now at a loss and almost feel stuck. The noise issue is still going on to this day and we are now taking the issues into our own hands. Getting 3-4 [maybe 5 if we are really lucky] hours a sleep each night is starting to take its toll and the 6:30AM wake-up call [or please insert word of choice: slamming of master bedroom door; slamming of master bathroom door; jumping up and down; stomping of feet ) from up stairs on the weekends is incredibly frustrating and rude.

If you don't mind hearing your neighbors enjoy each other, coughing or peeing and don't mind smelling what they decided to smoke or make for dinner, move on in.

The property has gone down hill and the management change is frequent enough to give you a seizure.

We do not recommend living at Avalon Rockmeadow. Though this is the only property we have lived at- We would not recommend them [or any apartment community by Avalon.]

We live in a townhouse apt for over a year and have not experienced the problems mentioned. We have barely heard our neighbors who have young children and we never know what they have for dinner. Yes there are undesireble elements but they are in every apartment complex. There have been arguments in the parking lot at times that have been louder than the kids playing but that goes with the territory with so many people living in a small space. When the window are closed we cannot here the kids playing down below us. The most noise we hear is loud car engines and the lawn mowers of the landscaping crew. When we call the office about a problem it is fixed within 24 hours. This is not a college dorm where there is a huge space for a parking lot but at most of the apartments we looked at there was even less. If we had the problems that the rater has experienced we would have moved as soon as our first lease was up since there are cheaper apartments nearby.

You know sometimes I wonder if people are real on here? I have had no problems with Avalon and I have lived at 3 of the communities. Ya, staff changes but its like everywhere else. Life happens and I am sure there is opportunities for people to move on! There is several Avalons in the North and East Side, why wouldn't they want to have people shuffle around. People choose where to live and if they are so unhappy then they should move. You have to keep in mind that this is apartment living. Apartment living! You are going to have stuff happen where ever you go. I know from my experience Avalon has done a great job of keeping people informed. Reading some of these comments....I wonder if there is more to the story then what is being told. Would be interesting to see what Avalon side of the story is. Did you really turn in several request? Did they really not respond? I know that I have always had my stuff fixed in a timely matter. I have also referred my friends to live at Avalon and no problems either.

I never really sympathize with these "we've lived here for 4 years and the place is awful" reviews. If the place is so bad, why haven't you moved already? Cynnicism about this review out of the way, Avalon is kind of dreary, loud, and inconvenient in many regards. It's all relative, though.
