Loved it - then Left it.

I moved here in 2005 and have renewed my lease since then. RENT: our rent includes the $25 per month per pet fee, for a dog and a cat. In 2005 the rent was about $1200, and now it is $1514 per month. I fully expect the rent to go up to $1700 or so this summer if we renew, have not really decided whether I'll do this or not. NOISE: I have heard yelling one time while out walking my dog one evening, but the police were already called when I called them. My own neighbors are a relatively young couple and decided to hang their flat screen TV on the wall sharing, which has been a huge issue. Twice they could not hear me ring the doorbell, so I had no recourse but to ask management to intervene, which was done on the spot! They had the female's cell phone and called her right then. So, that's the whole of the noise issues since I've been here... annoying at times but this is an apartment, after all. Some of this has to be expected. DOG POOP: Becoming an issue in this very dog-friendly community. Although there are poop stations and bags available, people still let their dogs "go," and don't pick it up. With a nice huge nature area on the property, this is something I don't get. I walk my dog back there and always use the poop bag if she goes somewhere else, but that's my own decision for behavior. Wish everyone else would, too! CATS: When the huge building project next door started and the land was cleared the feral cats moved over, and there are still 3 or 4 that have taken up residence, but cats don't seem to be so annoying as the dog poop thing. LOCATION: If you are a bus commuter, the bus stops are very near, you can even walk to the bus stop instead of driving. Head north on Hwy 527 to McCollum Park and Ride or south to Canyon Park Park and Ride. I work at UW and easily commute via bus, so this is a good location for that. PARKING: It's true about the parking, there just isn't very much extra parking here. If you have 2 cars, be prepared to pay for the extra space every month and even then, it's first come, first served for the extra spot. Most apartments have 1 designated spot, and the town homes have either a single or tandem double garage plus the space in front of your home. For me, this works just fine without an extra car but I totally understand the shortage of space complaints. MANAGEMENT: There was a huge turnover for a while it seems. However, with Michael here, I have seen a turn-around and enforcement of the rules. Sorry, but if you decide that community, or more dense living is for you, you have to expect a more constrained life style. But, the management style is fair and friendly. During the recent flooding, Michael was out in his rain suit the whole day, helping and directing staff to ensure flood damage was minimized. I was here, too! Some apartments were flooded, and I saw the maintenance people, headed by John, rehabbing those apartments and torn garage doors within a week after the property's insurance adjuster gave the go-ahead. Even saw baseboards and sheetrock removed and the apartments aired out and treated for mold before re-installing the walls, new carpeting and painting. MAINTENANCE: I have never had any maintenance request go unanswered. There was a time when street lights were out for a long time, and I did ask three times for that to be fixed -- but when I asked Michael instead of someone else, it was taken care of post-haste. STAFF: Have only had the best interactions with staff here. I'm not saying everything is always all roses, but if you treat people with respect, that's how you'll be treated back. Now, I have never been late with rent so I don't know how you are treated in that case, but there you go. That's just basically doing what you said you would do: I signed a lease saying I would pay this amount on this date, and that's just what you do. Understand life hands you challenges from time to time.
Think that about covers it.

2009 Update:
The rent went up, up, up and we moved into a 2bed/1bath with garage.
Apartments went section 8, loads of kids and chalk drawings, junk on and around apartments. Left there.

What a great review. I did notice lately there is a lot of dog poop around but I figured it was because of the snow. Still people should be responsible enough to clean up after their dogs no matter what the circumstance! I have lived here for a year and a half. After the first year when I resigned the rent went up only $19 otherwise I would of found another place to live. However my rent stayed the same really. We are higher than pretty much all apartments in the area I know but I knew that when I signed the lease. The management has always been super professional with me. Maintenance requests are always handled super fast and whatever issue I have had has always been addressed. Michael is great and Deb who just took over from Becky seems like she'll be a great asset. They did a fast and super job with the cleanup from the December rainstorm. I was gone for most of December so when I cam back it looks like all the repair work was done! Great job John and staff. I live on the opposite side of the complex from the construction work so I never had to deal with noise. Looks like they are pretty much done with that project though. Yes its nice to be close to 3-4 Park and Rides also. I would think from $1200 to $1500 in 3 years is too much of a significant jump in rent for me though. I have had minimal noise issues. The lady above me at 6am has some serious heels but its cool since I am awake then. You have to expect some noise living in an apartment complex. If you don't want any noise ever then buy a house out in the boonies somewhere then problem solved. If the rent doesn't jump more than a few bucks I will resign here for another year I think. Great area and I have never had an issue with prowlers or anything of that nature at any time. The only issue I have had here is that out on Bothell Everett Highway during rush hour at night in the past 3 months I have had super close calls with drivers trying to run me over while they are turning. When I have the green light and the little walk man I have the right of way kids :)
