From the road, these apartments look great - new construction, awesome location, good amenities, right on the green belt... at first, I adored the carriage house that we moved into. (A carriage house is a 1-bedroom that stands alone with garages underneath.)

Unfortunately, problems started popping up within days. My front windows look out a another 3-story building, where the tenants on all three levels practically live out on their decks, smoking all the time and yelling down to their friends in the parking lot. It was unsettling to know that they saw everything I moved into my apartment and know exactly when I'm home and when I'm not.

When I started telling my friends and family where I had moved, the horror stories started flooding in. Apparently, this complex gets the most 911 calls in all of South Everett and Mill Creek. I don't at all doubt that - no less than twice a week, a cop, fire truck, or ambulance drives in, sirens blaring. Kids are always pulling the fire alarm in the E building, and one time I saw a boy, maybe 13 or 14, get arrested out in the parking lot!

Speaking of the E building, you might want to avoid it; people pee in the elevator and tag it. Graffiti isn't limited to the elevator at Heatherwood - the back of my building and my staircase were tagged with "420" and "Suck a D**k" during the 4-day power outage. It took 2 weeks before management "cleaned" it off, and all they did was smear the paint around so you can't read the text.

A major pot dealer operates out of here, so if you're looking to get hooked up, you're set.

Also, my unit butts right against the main driveway, so every car that drives by sounds like they are driving through my bedroom. Between the people who drive by bumping their music, the guy who parks in the garage below me blasting reggeton, and the person who revs their engine every day at 4 am, I can never get an uninterrupted night of sleep.

If you are intimidated by teenagers and gangstas, Heatherwood probably isn't for you. There are packs of kids who run around at all hours, especially on the weekends. I was promised by management that the 10 pm curfew was strictly enforced by security, but that was a lie.

Security doesn't have much of a presence at all, from what I've seen. Someone tried to steal my neighbor's car at 8 am in broad daylight! Scary! I have noticed, however, that the police are now regularly patrolling the parking lot. Yeah.

Overall, I think management is so-so. They try to support the families that live here with the on-site YMCA daycare and the activities they plan, but it seems like they are overwhelmed. They haven't particularly helped me out - I forgot that February is a short month and put my notice to vacate in a day late, and now I have to stay an extra month. It's very disappointing that they couldn't help me out.

These are the best Section 8 apartments that I've seen, but I'm not Section 8, so I'm getting the heck out of here, and I suggest you avoid this place if you can help it!

F.Y.I. Heatherwood is a low income residence.... Section 8 allows the individual to live anywhere they choose.
