Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007
Came from Michigan 6 months back. and laurels at mill creek is my first place to live in washington, so I cannot compare to anything else in this place. but I can say some good and bad about the place,
Good:
maintenance guys respond quickly.parking has not been an issue so far, decent apartments on the inside, considering they appear pretty old on the outside. quiet place to live by, except for a fat guy who lives above my apartment, runs in his house and that noise drives me crazy. no bugs, no one loiters around.
Bad:
I dont know if its poor insulation, or in adequate heating vents, house dosent get heated up quickly. The apartments are old, so are the appliances. Though I havent had any problems so far except for the room heater which died once, one of my many friends who live at laurels has had a problem with his washing machine not cleaning clothes properly, Room Heater not working, and dishwasher leaking, even though they have tried to fix things up, the dish washer has still been leaking (i guess this is a rare occurance). there isnt proper lighting in the apartment complex.
When I lived in michigan, I always got back the deposit, that I paid. I always keep the apartment clean, no matter where I live. The management here tell u stories about the deposit you pay and change it all together when you leave.
The management at laurels is useless, This guy Jason talks crap and knows nothing. Your deposit for a single bedroom is 300 application fee, $150 is the non refundable and $150 is the refundable portion. when your lease is over,
this is what they charge you with (for a 1 bed room 6 months lease):
painting the house (just after 6 months lease) $130
Apartment Cleaning $110
Carpet cleaning $70
and other costs $160
They will not tell you this when you move in. Also I have never heard of repainting a home after 6 months stay, thats been maintianed without a scratch or a mark on the wall. Also the way they handle referal fee is so unprofessional. This guy Jason tells me that, instead if giving me the check for $100 or deducting it from my final rent, they ask me to go collect it from the person who i referred to, I have never seen any one handle things like this in such a bad manner.
Finally, I had this thing settled. Cher told me that, they had repainted the house at their discresion and did not charge me with the cost of painting. for the cost of apartment cleaning and carpet vaccuming, I had to fight for the money in a fair dispute, and have the money refunded. Always remember, right the day when you leave, make sure a person from the leasing office goes through the house with you, If not they will charge you with insane costs. Good Luck!
