A Step Up From The Usual

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2002
We're currently living in Stonemeadow, and after two months it's been a better experience than our previous rental, with a couple of exceptions.
First, the thing to remember about Archstone communities in general is that they are EXTREMELY particular about their rules and regulations. If you do decide to move in, be sure you look over their entire disclaimer (3 pages) carefully, about what you are responsible for. Be sure to use a video camera when you first move into the apartment to record every problem you see. You'll thank yourself later in a move in case they refuse to return your deposit.
Also, since these apartments are about 6 years old with some renovations, the half-life of some of the utilities are starting to show. We had a couple of kitchen utilities replaced due to rust and overuse.
Beware the size of the kitchens here. Some are good, some are small. We have small, and we didn't realize how much counter space we needed until it was too late. Make sure you get a place with a decent size kitchen.
This is not the apartment complex for you if your a fan of fireplaces.
The maintenance staff here is very responsive and is quick to fix problems. Granted, you should treat them with dubious respect, and they'll reward you well.
Like all apartment rentals, you have the ever entertaining plethora of neighbors to deal with. Some are very silent, while others are a little louder. We had one noise complaint sent in about us, and we dealt with it promptly. One thing's for sure about the community here, they are pretty uptight about the weirdest things. Unfortunately for us, loud noises *during the day* to one of our neighbors must cause him to writhe in pain on his living room floor. But, you'll get that anywhere.
The walls here are thicker than most, but you can still hear sounds from time to time.
A previous post was right. Tenants here are nazis about their covered parking, and will tow you. Mary's towing will charge you 150 dollars up front for the tow, and about 60 added in fees, with 45 a day if you don't pick it up immediately.
This is a good location for DSL. Less than a thousand feet from a local telco from Verizon.
Carpets are starting to bubble just a bit. If you have the room to negotiate, try and get your carpet replaced.
Very good location for getting to QFC/Albertsons/Mongolian Grill/Hollywood Video/I-405. You only experience heavy volumes during 4-6 M-F.
The rent prices have risen dramatically since we secured our spot in November. Chances are that market values will push 2 bedroom apts here back in the 1k range.
Overall, a decent place to live, but the BS is a little more than most by virtue of the Archstone rule set that governs the area.
Oh, and someone please tell the front staff to get rid of the stinky candles they always burn in the lobby area. ;) qmzu4EHcaGAPVCPw2Fai
