My husband and I moved in 06/2008. We never had any problems until it came time to sign a new lease and/or move out. We decided to sign another lease because if we didn't our rent was going to go up from $983 a month to $1460 a month. A huge jump in price! So we were trapped into signing another 10 month lease. They sent us a renewal contract that we signed by the 5th of the month to keep our rent down to $983, not including the $10 pet rent, $35 car port, and $60 utility charges per month. Also, if the contract was signed by the 5th of the month we would have $150 off our next months rent. We put the contract in with our rent check. They received the rent check but not the contract. It took a couple of days to get that handled, but we were able to get our base rent back down with our $150 discount. The next month comes, we signed a new lease, and with the new lease, we put in our next month's rent check. Now, they get the lease but not our rent check. We get a notice posted to our door saying we need to pay in three days or vacate the premises. We once again stomp down to the office. They tell me that my option is to give them another check, but they cannot except a check without the $75 late fee. I refused to pay them the $75 late fee considering I had put the rent check in the same envelope as our lease agreement, and the lost it. I gave them a carbon copy of my check, and they make it seem like I had written out the check minutes before I came to the office to dispute the situation. If that was the case, I wouldn't have gone to the extent of paying the $29 stop payment fee from my bank. I still haven't heard back from this company. I am hoping that I am not going to get penalized with a $75 late fee, when in turn I was not late!!!
