I'm a current resident, lived there over 2 years, but leaving in a few months. Not because of safety, not because of noise, but because it's a rip-off. These apartments are not new, but they are priced that way. I love my apartment, a large one-bedroom. It is huge, except for the kitchen, and I am sad to leave. But no matter if you are a loyal Equity renter or renew your lease for the full 12 months, they do not give you any sort of reward as far as keeping rent rates reasonable. After my first year, they raised the rent over $100. When I renewed again, they tried raising it another $100, but gave me and my husband a break because he is military and deployed. But as soon as he comes home, they are raising it again. Garbage costs have gone up twice in the last 6 months, yet they do nothing to prevent non-residents from using our dumpsters. There is a pack of kids that runs around that I've had to call the police on because they are out after midnight making noise. And one of my neighbors had his car stolen early in the morning. But those are things that will happen at any apartment complex. I've never felt unsafe in my apartment or out in the parking lot after dark. My only problem with a neighbor is that she smokes outside on her back porch instead of inside her own home, so during the summers I have a choice of either sucking her cancer-air or sweltering in an apartment with no ceiling fans. I've talked to the office about it, but they say that she's allowed to smoke on her back porch since it's not considered common area, even though it ends up coming into MY home.

So, if you're rich and can afford the constant price increases, it's a great place to live. The neighbors are nice, it's generally quiet, and the apartments are pretty. It's just way too expensive for normal people.
