Here's my 2 cents...

Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2002
I recently moved from Chopaka after living there for a year. The woman who was the first manager did a poor job in my opinion. Garbage did pile up, and things were not as they should be. But then Joyce took over, and the place blossomed. The trash dumpsters are always tidy, they've planted lovely flowers everywhere, the grounds are inspected daily, and her caring shows.
As far as these dummies complaining about the kids playing - well, move to a retirement community for gosh sakes! The kids are adorable. They play ball, and draw cute pictures on the sidewalks and play Barbies, and do the stuff that kids do. I never once found them to be any bother, in fact, some of the older boys offered to help me carry boxes when I moved - very polite.
As far as the neighbors go, hey, it's an apartment - a melting pot of people, as are all apartments. There are always some rotten apples in every barrel. I have seen the management deal with them swiftly. Joyce doesn't take any stuff from them. She really tries hard to keep things under control. Some people just like to complain and be nasty, like that creep with the 4-Runner who kicked a dog and threatened a kid, and who's always nasty and mean. It's best just to ignore this sort, and cut them a wide berth. Live and let live, I say.
As far as the maintenance man goes - the things some say about him are so unfair and untrue. He is a super guy who works very very hard. It's not easy being a one man show. He has always taken care of my repairs in a timely manner, and no, I am not of Mexican heritage. He was absolutely wonderful to my neighbor who needed a bit of extra help, always doing little things to help her out. He is terriffic, and it really makes me angry to read some of this crap about him.
I found Chopaka a very pleasant place to live. I especially loved the woods coming right up to my patio. I miss that. In my opinion, apartments in general are not very exciting, for they are usually somewhat temporary, but it was a nice place to live for the time i was there, and I made some special friends who will remain friends now that I'm gone.
