Real Life TOXIC Nightmare!

My roommate and I choose Lakemont Orchard because the floorplan, location and (as much as I hate to admit this) because I really liked their first impression. Too bad our experience quickly turned into the worst rental situation I've ever experienced.

Within months of moving in my roommate noticed some mold growing on the bedroom wall, which was diligently cleaned over (and over, and over, and over) with bleach. After maintenance concluded it was the sprinkler right outside the bedroom window that was spraying directly on the building and down the bedroom wall they adjusted the sprinkler and "resolved" the problem. Unfortunately, that was only the beginning. My roommate didn't have much furniture, so many items sat directly on the floor. Not that the space was cluttered or dirty, just simple and basic. The problem escalated on the morning the carpet was soaked along with any personal belonging (including box spring) that sat on the floor. We immediately reported the problem to the office and after two more visits by maintenance to "fix" the problem, my roommate moving his remaining items into our living room, the mold consuming the entire 2nd bedroom and three more months dealing with the problem we FINALLY were given the opportunity to transfer units. The problem was the foundation. Go figure. (BTW - Did I mention we'd written numerous letters to the apartment office, property management and State Attorney General's office throughout our ordeal')

The best part of the transfer offer was when they asked if we'd take another bottom floor unit --- are you kidding'' After everything that we'd been through for MONTHS they were offering us another unit that sat below ground level. Unbelievable! That offer didn't fly and we ended up with a top floor unit and half off our monthly rent to accommodate (in their mind) for moving costs. I'd thought our terrible experiences were over ... and they were until the final month of our lease.

During the year we were there the office staffed had turned over countless times so anyone we'd dealt with throughout our difficulties was no longer around. After paying our last rent payment we received that lovely "pay or vacate" notice. My roommate and I put together how much we'd each paid over the course of our lease and taken our case up with the office. FINALLY, they figured out that we never received the 1/2 month off because no one entered it into the computer. Mind you, I never thought that 1/2 month off rent was enough to compensate us for the MONTHS of living in a 1 bedroom, 2 bathroom unit with a spare room full of MOLD that provided a poor quality of air for the entire unit.

Moving day arrives and we say goodbye to a remarkably horrible experience and yet they find one more way to leave a sour taste in our mouths: Within two hours of turning in our keys to an apartment we stayed in for not even 6 months they had charged us for more than our original deposit. They sent us a cleaning bill. Unbelievable! Oh, but guess what happened when we brought it to their attention ... they deducted the charges over and above our deposit amount so we ended up breaking even with them. Amazing how quickly they removed charges and how quickly they still didn't give us any deposit amount back.

All-in-all we were just glad to be done and moved out from this place! Horrible doesn't even begin to express how I still feel to this day about my experience there.
