miserable...from day one

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2002
my husband and I moved here in July 2002, and had very high hopes. Everyone seemed nice and helpful, the apartment that we were shown was beautiful and new and we were promised that the unit that we would occupy would have new carpet, linoleum, counters and paint, exactly like the one we looked at. We were not, however, allowed to walk through to verify this fact before moving in. On good faith (after all, with new everything and such nice people!...) we moved in anyway. It was disappointment from the second we walked in the door...not only was the carpet old and stained, the base boards were trashed, and some were missing, the linoleum and counters were stained and scratched, but it was a slightly different floorplan than what we had chosen and hadn't even been painted or cleaned well (there were still cobbwebbs in the corners). We immediately notified the lady who showed us the "new" unit and were told "I never said that...".
We have had to speak to management about our parking space being occupied by a guest vehicle...(security was very irritated about having to adress the issue), and we have called several times about the renters above us having their bass cranked so loud it actually brings on headaches. Someone in our building doesn't clean up after their dog, and management will not do anything to keep the area clean in spite of this fact.
I do not want any one reading this to think that I am complaining without reason. There are some good things about living here...we love the fact that there are many parks and shopping is only a mile away for groceries (along a 25mph road), all the trees are beautiful, and in the unit we are in, we are backed up to a green belt. Until the neighbors upstairs moved in, it was relatively quiet and we had no issues. The problems come once you do have issues...because management truly does not care. We have not had any street noise issues, but some people do speed despite the speed bumps, and we have heard people speaking very loudly outside well after 11pm, and it echoes here.
The club house looks beautiful-like an expensive hotel, but it is only show to falsely impress would-be renters.
If you do move in, get EVERYTHING in writing first, no matter how trivial, but I would say save yourself the headache. We are leaving at the end of our lease and can't wait to be out.
For the $$$ you pay you can do MUCH better...you can save yourself so much regret and disappointment.
