I moved in in December 2005. When I first saw the apartment, it was decent--there were obvious repairs, but at least it was clean and everything worked. At some point between when I signed the papers and when I physically moved in, someone smashed the faceplate and one knob on my (ancient) stove. The staff was very apologetic but otherwise did nothing; I later heard that they planned to replace the appliances as soon as I moved out. It was a year lease. *sigh* Anyway, the stove was damaged and older than dirt, but still functional... which is a pretty good description of the whole place, actually. (To their credit, nothing actually broke, leaked, or exploded while I lived there. I just worried that it would.)

On the initial walkthrough, the staff had raved about the work they'd done on the kitchen. They had just put a stacked washer and dryer in what I assume was once a pantry. (The kitchen storage space was rather limited.) Small problem: that space isn't sealed or insulated or whatever from the apartment next door. I never met the neighbors on the other side of the wall, but I ALWAYS knew when they were sitting down to dinner. Some days I could even smell what they were eating. About halfway through my lease, soem new tenants moved in and put their TV on the wall opposite my living room, so now I could also hear THEM watching the news and playing Mario Kart. It was like having roommates that never talked to me and didn't pay their share of rent.

As far as the staff... I can't say much about them because I never saw the maintenance people and the office staff kept disappearing. On the plus side, they were very reasonable about refunding my security deposit when I moved. On the other hand, the incident where they misplaced my rent check and then tried to give me an eviction warning letter did NOT impress me, but I don't think anyone involved still works there. I hope their next round of office people is competent, and that whoever it is will actually be present during the posted office hours.

Unfortunately, the other large complexes in that area--Trail Walk and Coventry Place--have converted to condos, so the Alexan has rather few competitors. I don't know how much incentive there will be to actually IMPROVE things. I can't recommend the place at the rates they were asking.
