Alderbrook
< Prev Review | >
My boyfriend and I moved into Alderbrook in April 2008. The first thing I have to say is that now that I've done my research, I'm confused as to why an income-restricted/Section 8 apartment complex charges so much for their apartments. I have found apartments in the area with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms for less than $875 a month, and they aren't income-restricted! The apartment itself, I do not mind. It's enough space for the 2 of us. However, first and foremost, the neighborhood itself is horrible. There is a constant police/firefighter/ambulance presence here. Just 5 days ago I came home from a meeting at 3 pm and there were at least 10 police cars in the neighborhood. I later found out that it was because 2 people in the K building were arrested for extortion and harboring a fugitive. I myself have had to call the police numerous times. The most recent time was when my boyfriend and I were sitting in our living room watching a movie, and this dude literally scaled the wall behind the apartment to get up to our upstairs neighbor's balcony! He banged on their back door for like 30 minutes and kept saying, "let me in." He would also run to their front door and beat on it for a while. We had to call the cops THREE times that night because they couldn't find the guy the first time (he was hiding on their balcony), the second time they gave him a warning and he went back to doing it again when they left, and I believe the third time they finally took him away. Another thing is one night my boyfriend and I took a walk (probably around midnight) and there was the big group of guys just standing in the middle of the road. We walked past them and I smiled, and one of them walked out from the group and said, "yeah keep walking -----." It pissed me off because we pay an arm and a leg to live here, and we will walk wherever we damn well please! I didn't say anything though because I've got a temper and it was a big group. Didn't want any trouble for us. Kids are outside at all hours of the day and night, screaming and hitting peoples' cars. My new car that I just got last June has scratches and dents all up and down it from the kids and also the people that can't park to save their lives. As for maintenance, expect to put in a work order numerous times. We had a huge mold problem last year (we moved our bed away from the wall, and there it was) and it took 3 weeks for maintenance to come out and clean it. We still have a black mold problem. I just clean it myself now with bleach. My boyfriend and I, as well as anyone who knows of the neighborhood, calls this place "Ghettobrook" and "Alderhood"... it's that bad! Just stay away unless you don't mind fearing for you and your family's safety on a daily basis, you don't mind your car getting scratched up, and a constant cop presence in front of your door.
