Great place to live

I moved into my apartment in March of 2005 and recently renewed my lease for another year in April. My rent stayed the same, even after the previous management said to expect it to go up. Management is attentive and shows a lot of respect and care for the residents here, and the maintenance crew almost always gets things done the day you submit your request - and if there's any wait, it's usually until the next day. We had a problem with the dryer that was here when we moved in, and they had a brand new one ordered and installed for us within two days.

The only real problem I've experienced is with the ants. These are older buildings and some of them (like the "A" building) have ants living in the foundation. So even if you keep a clean apartment, you'll still have a problem if you have pets (or any other reason why you'd have food sitting out). There was a two-week period where we'd come home every night to find a trail of ants coming from a hole in the wall, or a crack in the floor board, or from somewhere under the stove swarming around the cat's food bowl. Some sort of pest control was supposed to come and treat the building but they never did. Now that the hot summer days are pretty much over, it's no longer a problem, so we'll have to wait until next year to see if things get fixed.

Overall, this is a great place to live and I'd recommend it to anyone. The upkeep of the exterior, including the buildings and landscaping is wonderful. It's obvious that management cares about the way the apartments look.

The ant problems are carpenter ants, they are indigenous to wooded areas like Berkley, and and have remote nests in the wooded areas. they come out seeking food and water, their main food preferance is wood, but will eat most anything. I have seen them as well and the manager informed she has has a monthly professional pest control program, but even the experts will tell you this is a very hard ant to control without extreame envasive measures.
