Potential - but falls way short

My husband and I went to go check out the townhouses here a few weekends ago, and we were very disappointed. Kim, the leasing manager, was extremely nice and seems like a great person. She showed us all the amenities (which looked pretty good upon first glance, but I'm a huge believer that tanning beds should not be ANYWHERE except in salons where they can be properly cleaned and cared for). We went to the first townhouse and we were very disappointed at first glance. These places are horribly in need of some stylish upgrades. There was carpet all throughout the bottom floor (no real "entryway"), and carpet HALF WAY through each bathroom - weird! Kim told us she thought it was so your feet dont get cold, but I thought it was just stupid. Also, the master was supposedly on the bottom floor but it wasn't hooked to a bathroom or anything. Upstairs were the other two bedrooms (one of which had the water heater/boiler in the closet...) and the washer/dryer was in a closet just large enough to house them at the top of the stairs. I didn't care for the layout, seeing as how there was no real "master" and where the boiler was, and all of the appliances were so old it wasn't funny. I told Kim that it's not really about whether they work or not, these places don't take into consideration that it costs so much more to run these old ass appliances and THAT is what kills the deal.

Also, the linoleum in the kitchen and bathrooms didn't match if I remember correctly, and it was stained. The kitchen counter was really super old and stained in one spot as well. Very ugly. I was really disappointed because of how neglected everything was. The apartment looked pretty clean, in general, but the outdated appliances and weird carpet placement had us turning away almost instantly. The second townhouse we looked at was near a "lake" and the grass was completely mudded over. It looked so disugsting and I'm fairly certain it would look like that year round.

Kim was telling us how they were having a deal since they were having trouble selling the apartments at $1300 (new price was $1200). Hell, i would not pay $1100 for these. If they would update the cupboards, floor and appliances I bet they could get upwards of $1700 for these places, easily; even with the non-traditional layout. It's a townhouse, that in itself is appealing! How they have managed to neglect these places for so long is just beyond what I can comprehend. We ended up going across the street and looking at the three bedroom available there. It wasn't a townhouse, but it was updated with cherry cabinetry and stainless steel appliances. It was gorgeous, but we still didn't go with them. My advice is to keep looking. And hell, at this price point you should probably be looking at BUYING something, anyway. Anything over $1100 a month warrants you seriously looking into purchasing a home instead of renting.
