Deposits never returned - legal extortion

We rented an apartment at Royal Skies for two months. When we moved in, they were aware that the place smelled like a hotel room for smokers. When we moved out, they kept our deposits and are charging us even more for the replacement of the carpet among other things. One of these is for removal of ash from the fireplace - we were there in the heat of the summer and never once lit anything in the fireplace. Because we have decent credit and good jobs, we get to pay for the replacement of bad carpet!
