I lived in this complex for a year in 2006. The managment was wonderful.
My husband and I needed an apartment ASAP. We had no place to go and were not from the area. We had been living in hotels for about 2 weeks.

The managment bent over bakwards and did everything that they possibly could to get us in to an apartment with in 4 days of contacting them.

We ended up renting a studio on the ground floor. I had never lived in an apartment and also have never lived in the city. It took quiet a bit for me to get use to not only the people around, but the noise from the street as I work over night.

The apartment managment would have been great if it wasn't in a ghetto. We had shootings, stabbings, out and out fist fights between "adults", car theft mainly smash and grab in the complex, but it is all very rampent in Kent and the town itself is the problem not the complex. The comlplex is in a very bad area and the is no way to secure it.

The problems that I did have with the complex itself had to do with the random entries into the unit with 24 hour notice by maintenance and managment staff. Also they have a building fire alarm that they test out once a year for three hours after 10 am. It was so loud that it actually caused perminant mental/hearing damage to my cat.

Other than that they had manitenance issues. The guy that was there when we lived there did not speak english which was fine. He was kind of weird though. He wouldn't smile, and was not friendly. It took them 4 tries to fix my leaking refridgerator be for they replaced it.

I found out the hard way that the apartment was not clean when we moved in. We did most of the cleaning upon move in due to the urgency of needing a place. However we found out that no one had cleaned the place in quite a while. I found full drug baggies, pipes, needles under the fridge, stove, and behind the water heater. It was disturbing to say the least.

Our apartment was broken into o a regular basis. We figured it was just kids due to the only thing that was ever disturbed was the commputer was used and who ever was coming in was eating our pb&j. The managment would not change our locks.

After a couple months of living there I was assaulted two times. We had a prostitute that lived next door. The guy that lived above us brought up mattress, after matress and we would hear drilling, electric saws and screaming at all hours of the night. There was also a brutal murder and rape of an old woman in the complex. It was reported to the police and they did not show up. They had someone in the complex killing cats by strangelation and placing them in provocative positions on people's door steps.

Also when we moved in and did the walk through the weight bearing wall in the hall way was cracking from one side to the other. I had asked about it and it was noted on the walk thru paper. They tried to charge me for it when we moved out. They also tried to renew my lease with incorect information as far as who was living in the apartment itself.

The disability apartments are on large enough for a wheel chair to get into the bathroom. Which is frustraiting when you can't walk. Also the side walks and streets are difficult and almost impossible to traverse if you are in a wheelchair, or on crutches.

There were other issues.

I would not recomend this place UNLESS you have to live in the area due to finacial issues. If you do have to find a cheap place River Wood was not bad.

The management kindness and understanding made the place livable.

I recomend not getting a floor level unit as anything you have on your portch will be stollen from plants to chairs, to trash.
