DO NOT RENT HERE -Nightmare!

Caveat: Since management (and the name change) there may have been improvements, I don't know. From early 2004 to when I left (when they had a second complete management change) renting there was a dreadful experience.
When I first moved in, Jonathan's Landing offered me a decent place to live at a good rent. Little did I know that the apartment I moved into hadn't been rented for several years before me because of MOLD problems. I guess they just figured it would "go away."
The Mold made me sick but I didn't know at the time what was causing it. I guess I should have figured it out since JLA is situated in a swamp.
When my next lease was due (9 months later) they upped the rent over $100 per month. Then there were more regular increases. They repainted the buildings but since the water bill is a shared bill, tenants paid for all the thousands of gallons of water used to pressure wash the units.
If something broke, instead of replacing it they would usually try to repair it even if the repair was rediculous. For example, they eventually replaced my fridge, but for YEARS previous I had this fridge that was completely rotted on the inside. I couldn't put anything as heavy as a gallon of milk on the shelf without the shelf breaking. They glued it, screwed it, etc (and each repair took months to get done) but it was rotten. Finally after over 3 years they replaced it. My dishwasher was similarly old, broken, leaked and otherwise barely worked. I asked for it to be repaired in writing several times and they never did fix it. These are only samples of several things I had to deal with - and I am not one of those people who complain about everything.
I always paid my rent on time. Always. I never missed a rent payment. I gave proper notice when I moved out. I turned in the keys. Several months after I moved out, a collection agency representing JLA started to harass me using filthy language - I recorded the calls - to the point that I had to call the Police and later the WA State AG's office who promptly put a stop to it.
I asked this collection agency why it is they thought I owed over $2500 to JLA but they couldn't tell me. I know I didn't owe them a dime. This Collection agency (RentCollect) has several different business names they use so when you dispute the validity of the collection with the credit bureau they just transfer the file to another of their business names and take up where they left off. (This is illegal but a common practice, I found out.)
This extortion has continued down to this day. Now it seems that Rock Creek management is willing to look into the matter. We will see if that resolve it. If they do, I will post the results. If they don't, well let's just say it should be a matter of public record very soon. I have two law firms on retainer.
Until this is resolved properly - I would not recommend this apartment complex. It's just too risky. Now it could be that the new management is bona fide good people, but we will see if that's the case. Until then, don't walk away - RUN.

Just to update, the new management of the formerly Jonathan's Landing Apts. now Rock Creek Landing, is not doing any better a job. They have made it priority to updats and spend what looks like $100,000 on their leasing office remodel rather than address and fix the many many problems on their property. The apartments have mold issues and NOT from the fault of the tenants. I am planning on contacting an attorney about all that they have pulled here from charging for parking and not towing, to mold and repairs that take forever to fix. Tell your friends to run away from this place.
