Started off bad and only got worse

I felt lured to this apartment by the their promotion of a million dollar remodel job and promises that never matterialized. The first problem was that we had a deposit down but the people in the apartment we had been promised never moved out. This did not faze the management. They said they had another apartment for us for more money and that the move in would be 2 weeks later. We were in a house that we had sold and we were really depending on being able to move in. We ended up renting are old house for another month.

We did get to see the apartmnet before we moved in. It was a mess. We were promised that it would be completely cleaned up like new and we would get a new carpet. When we finally got in the apartment we discovered little cosmetic problems that we were willing to live with. The carpet was another story. Instead of a new carpet like they promised they just cleaned the stained carpet. Since there were still stains on the carpet we did complained. Management would promise to inspect the carpet but never did. After months of complaining the management ended up just cleaning the carpet again and adding to our contract that we couldn't be charged for damage to the carpet.

We had maintenance in our apartment often. Mostly problems with the plumbing and fixtures. I didn't blame the maintenance staff. They had to try to fix things that really needed to be replaced.

By the 3rd year cars started being stolen in the complex. There response to this was sending out a flyer every time a car was stolen and patting themselves on the back for being forth-right about it(this practiced stopped after 2 months, the car thefts did not). Security was stepped up by having patrols drive around asking people if they lived there. If you said yes they would leave you alone. Eventually, a gate was installed. There was a flyer saying that the gate would not effect the rents. Consistantly, when my lease was up the rent went up $30. After the gate the rent went up $60. To open the gate we were given these thick key cards that are too big to carry in your pocket or wallet. I kept loosing mine. They wanted $50 dollars to replace it.

By this time it was not unusual to hear gunshots at the complex. I remember after one shooting there were about 10 police officers outside my apartment with assault weapons drawn. I was with my grandfather and he commented that I might as well be living in Compton(no offence to Compton). I was so embarrassed.

Suffice it to say I am glad I don't live there anymore. When I moved to my new place I found the maintenance guy started working here. He couldn't stand the manage either.
