Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
We (my husband & I) first moved into The Summit Apartments in May of 2007. We were guranteed a very quiet, clean area with strict rules. Rules ranging from throwing your trash in the bins (we were told that they would go so far as to search through trash to find a piece with your name on it to know who to charge if not thrown IN the trash bins), not working on your cars in the parking lots (never enforced) to breed restrictions on dogs (no pit bulls, german shepherds, etc. We saw a German Shepherd walking around when we were touring the facility, her answer' "I think they moved in before that breed was restricted, I don't really know").
With that said.. the facilities themselves are not horrible. Our apartment was clean upon move-in, well kept & what you could ask for for only $820 a month. Parking is not a horrible situation. Our covered spot is never occupied by anyone else & we can always find some place close to park our second vehicle. We have never had a problem with the women (and one gentleman) working in the office. They are always polite to me & the men working on the grounds do a fairly good job, are very nice & respond within a couple days to any issues in the apartment.
Our first year here was normal, I'm assuming (this is our first stay in an apartment). It was NEVER quiet, so as for the promises of quiet, I don't really understand where she got that. Children always running about, loud conversations at 2am & Fire, Police, & Ambulences coming through at LEAST 2 times a month. We were told by one of the office woman (after living here a year) that the back corner that we live in is much louder & has more problems because it is where the 3 bed apartments are (families), perhaps if we had gotten an apartment in the front area (which costs more) we wouldn't have issues....
Our second year, however, has proven to be horrific. We keep to ourselves, the neighbors in our building aren't bad people to live around, but the buildings surrounding us are a different story all together. Since June of this year:
*I have witnessed a man kick in a window of a car (a car with a two women in the front & two babies in the back) to scream at the driver, telling her he would kill her without any regret. This lasted about 15 minutes then he walked off...the two grounds keepers watching decided to call the police AFTER the man walked off. This was at 12pm in the afternoon.
*My car was keyed on Halloween night.
*Twice now I've gone onto my patio to find food has been thrown onto the patio (random, I know!). First time someone actually crawled up onto our second floor patio, opened a kit kat fast break bar, ate half of it then shoved the rest into my plant. I know they crawled up because the kit kat bar was shoved INTO a plant that I had pressed against my sliding door & the ripped off part of the wrapper was also on the patio. Second piece of food was a half eaten waffle.
*Loud argument at 1:45am followed by a fist fight between 3 men & a woman (same woman who's car window was kicked in).
*Last night: 10-12 gun shots fired in the parking lot in front of our apartment. When I went out to my car this morning there was a gun casing behind my car (so no, it wasn't just "fireworks" or "back firing" cars we heard). The cops were called of course but by time they got here everything was over & done.
*Police, Ambulence & Fire trucks: have counted 10 vehicles in the complex since June, 2008 almost all after 10pm.
*Received a memo from the management alerting us of increased car break-ins, reminding tenants not to leave valuables in the car & that management was NOT responsible for any loss of personal property.
Bottom line: The Summit is not a safe place to live. The gates are always broken, standing wide open so that's a joke. The pedestrian gates are never locked, so where's that security' And basically all the trouble is already IN the complex. If you don't mind noise, guns, fist fights & a gurantee that your rent WILL increase every year (confirmed by two other families in our building that have lived here 2 years) then by all means rent an apartment here. As for us, we will be out of here as soon as legally possible.
