Lived here for a year and a half (11/2000 - 7/2002).
It was priced right for the 2bed 2bath we rented on the 2nd floor.
Usually well kept during the spring-fall months, but winter you'll find lots of leaves piling up.
Parking is somewhat of an issue, you'll find adequate parking during the daylight hours, but it fills up almost completely by nighttime, and the remaining spots are in remote areas that don't look too safe.
Vehicle safety is a MAJOR issue here.
My truck was broken into TWICE and STOLEN once.
I spoke to several other tentants and they reported their cars being broken into as well.
The staff reports that there is a security guard that patrols once or twice a night, but I've _never_ seen this person.
The buildings are numbered very odd.
Makes its difficulty for any delivery persons or guests to find your correct apartment.
The apartments themselves are built pretty well.
Survived the Feb 28, 2001 quake with no damage at all.
Walls, floors, and ceilings appear to be firm, no cracks or apparent defects.
Counters and some corners do show wear and tear however.
Appliances are merely sufficient.
Our garbage disposal has been replaced once after it had a major leak.
The fridgerator had issues with keeping correct temperature, and there is no place for ice trays in the freezer.
Stove and diswasher were average - no microwave provided, and no appropriate spot to place one.
The washer and drier seemed to be too small for our needs, and the drier would take 3 times the normal amount of time to dry a regular load.
Electricity was a small problem for us, but we kept up to 8 computers running and would often trigger the circuit breaker.
Phone was adequate, we had 1 phone line and a DSL connection (640k).
Also digital cable.
Noise was ok, the neighbors were usually quiet, except you could hear the noisy fans from the bathrooms.
I wouldn't necessarily recommend The Village unless you don't own a vehicle.
There is a park and ride bus station less than a block away.

I've only lived here for about 1 1/2 months. I agree with the leaves in the fall/winter months. They have been piling up lately, but there is only one maintenance person that I know of here, so I'll give her a break. Parking is somewhat of an issue. I have to pay $25 extra a month for a reserved spot that had someone parking in it the first 3 days I lived here. I called a tow truck and they never came. If the truck did come, it must have been after about 2am when I finally went to bed. The towing company said all the trucks were out helping the police department. I've never heard of anyone getting their vehicle broke into or stolen yet, but after a week of living here someone removed the magnet from my vehicle and threw it on the ground. I guess they didn't agree with what the magnet said. I HAVE seen the security guard patrol here once or twice every night. Usually after 10pm. Some people have had difficulty finding my apartment, and some people found it fairly well. It could be a little easier for them to find my apartment since I live in one of the front buildings though. I agree with the apartments being built well. I believe they were built in the mid to late 1980s. The countertops are good in my apartment. There are 1 or 2 spots on the floor where we hear squeeks when you step on it though. Appliances are okay I guess. There is no cutting board. Any problems I have had so far were fixed that same day. (Garbage disposal, kitchen faucet and caulking around kitchen sink all had leaks). The refrigerator does have a temperature problem, but I have not notified the management yet. Stove is sometimes difficult to cook on because the burners are not level. Dishwasher is fine. There is PLENTY of counter space to put a microwave, plenty. The washer and dryer are good enough for my needs and there is 2 adults and a child that I have laundry for. The dryer only takes one time to dry for me, and I use low heat setting. The only time I need to dry longer with low heat is when I am drying jeans and thick sweats, as most dryers would. So far electricity is not a problem, we use the fireplace rather than the heater. There is supposed to be an increase in price this month though, due to gas prices increasing. We have 2 computers and 2 televisions running usually. I've only tripped the breaker once so far, when I was vacuuming. We do not have a phone hooked up, but it was difficult to use a cell phone without going outside, because we live on the 1st floor. We have digital cable and a DSL connection. Noise is okay I guess. The people above us have 2 dogs and a cat, so the dogs make a lot of noise when they run around upstairs, sometimes at 3-4am. The people across from us listen to their music loud when they come home from work and on the weekends, but so do I. I can hear the fan running in the bathroom upstairs. There was a problem with dog poop outside my bedroom window, but the problem was fixed after I notified management. The rent price is average for my 2 bd 1 bath on the 1st floor. |
