Villaggio on Yarrow Bay

Has potential, but falling short
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 5/1/2009
Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009
Pros:
1. Beautiful place, right on the lake
2. Great location, right between 405 and 520
3. Quality interiors, appliances
4. Taylor in the main office was always very helpful
Cons:
1. Parking - Our assigned underground spot dripped onto our car, leaving white spots that were extremely hard to clean off. We told them and they assigned us a new spot, which someone else parked in. When I told the staff about this she said she would call me back with a new spot - she never did. Also, there are only a few guest parking spots which are always taken by residents. Your guests will not be able to park at the apartment. However, in the summer, people will have their guests park in resident parking, leaving no spaces for you.
2. Less than a month after we moved out we got a call from a collection agency saying we owed the apartment money, and if we did not pay immediately they would report the debt against our credit score. She talked to us like criminals. The apartment never notified us that we owe them money (as they are legally obligated to do), and we were given a lame excuse as to why we weren't notified. When we moved in, I was dumb enough to think our security deposit was "waived" as a move in special, but it turns out they just charge you hundreds of dollars when you move out for "standard cleaning costs", which I'm not even sure they can legally charge. All they had to do was call us or write to us and tell us we owed money, but instead we have to take calls from a rude collection agent on our personal cell phones while we're at work to get it settled. The office was absolutely no help in dealing with this, and basically expressed no concern. So I get to pay a $9 processing fee to a collection agency, and have my credit score threatened because the Villaggio couldn't be bothered to send me a bill.
3. We reported cosmetic problems, such as missing chunks of molding, which we were told would be fixed by the time we moved in - it was never fixed. We had to call to get the hot water turned on, after a few days of wondering why the shower was only lukewarm. We also had to call to get the water to the fridge hooked up. We felt these things should have been checked before we moved in.
4. Apartments that face the courtyard are pretty miserable in the summer. No breeze gets through to your apartment. The neighbors enjoy having loud late night patio parties right below your bedroom window.
5. There are times when the gates fail to open with your keycard, and you will need to go to the office to get your keycard reset or hope someone lets you in.
6. The other problem with the gates is that people can use the call box to call your apartment which rings your home phone. We got ghost calls from the box, some in the middle of the night.
For the rent we paid, I expected more from Villaggio. Until we got the collections call, I would have given it a passing grade, but their lack of concern for their billing practices is unforgivable. I do not recommend this apartment.
