I moved into this apartment complex last March, 2008 and just recently moved out March 2009. Upon my signing my lease to move out, I was told by the office staff that my apartment was in good condition and clean and that I would be receiving a refund check back from my initial deposit. I was completely in shock when I got my move out bill/fee of $2000 in the mail not even 3 days after signing my move out lease for rediculous charges!!!
I have since reported them to the BBB. Be careful renting from them...

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we also reported them to the BBB and that process is a joke! The manager at the corporate headquarters is a jerk and irrational it is unlikely you will get $$ back, but the complaint should reduce your bill. These apartments are scammers out to make more $$ after you move out, my apartment was spotless, we were still billed $89 after we moved out, which was unexpected after thinking we were getting our deposit back. We fought it and came out not owing a dime but still no deposit. EVERYONE STEER CLEAR OF THE DAKOTA APARTMENTS!!!

Thanks for the information about the BBB...I know you are right about not getting my money back, but it would be nice to have my bill reduced if at all possible. In the interum, I have written a letter to the staff of the Dakota Apartments requesting that they send me a copy of the invoice for the carpet replacement they "had" to do along with a description of the damage. I also requested that they send me a copy of the invoices and descriptions for the replacements of the various other ridiculous charges. I sent a copy of this letter to the American Property Management...so I guess I will just wait and see what happens next. Thanks again for your response....I only wish that I would have checked this place out more thouroughly before I moved in. LESSON LEARNED!!!

I don't think the apartment complex realizes how many people are outraged with them. If there is anyone reading this and wouid like to join a class action lawsuit against the dakotas please e-mail dandminvestments@gmail.com Also the person who wants to blacklist them from future military tenancy please let me know if I can help.
