It's no Eden, but generally a good place to live

My husband and I lived at Avalon Brandemoor for a year and a half. Yes, the apartments are cheaply made, but we never intended to make them a permanent residence.

We found the staff to be very courteous and attentive. Whenever our apartment required maintenance, they always sent someone out within a day.

All of the facilities were generally well-maintained.

We lived on the top floor, and we usually didn't hear our neighbors. We did live in a unit that was very close to 164th St, near the main entrance to the complex, so we did get a lot of traffic noise at all hours of the night--also from rude neighbor's thumping car stereos. They would park under our bedroom window and have little social parking lot gatherings at two and three in the morning.

Because of the location of our unit, parking was never much of a problem. The new parking program that was implemented actually made parking more difficult for us. And we thought it was ridiculous to have to pay for parking in a suburb.

My husband's car was stolen twice during our time there--and both times it was parked right in front of our unit.

When we moved out, they charged us up the ying-yang, although we kept our place pretty much immaculate during our stay there, and spent hours cleaning when we moved out. They actually charged us for not cleaning out the washing machine drum!!

Also, make sure you return the cheap plastic parking passes they hand out. They didn't ask for ours when we left, and we didn't remember to return it. Our initial bill from them (after sucking dry our DP) was $500--mainly because of the parking pass, and other charges here and there. We mailed them the pass, and they dropped some of the charges, so we only ended up paying an extra 60 (still ridiculous, but much better).

We weren't pleased with the outcome of our move out, but we generally enjoyed living there. It wasn't bad for a big sprawling complex.
