Stay away (money hungry corporation)

We moved in when these townhomes were brand new and we were paying as much as our mortgage now on our brand new home. We were told when we moved in that this property was a professional community. There were several things that really bothered me.

1. Inconsistancy in rules: When we lived there we were told that you had to be parking your vehicles in your garage and you could not use it for storing things or other uses. There was a tenant that had a pool hall set up in his 2 car garage and had all the disco stuff including lights and sound system and pool table. He would have people over and the managers knew as they lived 2 doors down and were told about it several times. Nothing was ever done. We continued getting reminders about having our garages inspected to make sure we were following guidelines (which we were)and yet after the inspections nothing was done to this pool hall.

2. Getting out of lease: After living here for almost a year our lease was about to expire and we were given a renewal notice. We had decided at the cost of rent we were paying that we wanted to buy a home and not have to put up with management who were less than professional. We bought a brand new home and our house closed before our lease was up. We had already paid for that month and had one more month of it left so we knew we had to just pay the rent for that month so as not to break the lease. We took care of our responsibility and paid our lease off. We wrote them a letter in advance stating our intentions. So after moving day we came back and spent 1/2 day cleaning everything. It was spotless and went to turn in our keys. My husband came out and told me they wouldn?t take the keys back because that would be breaking the lease. I got out of the car and stomped in there and explained about the letter I had written and I was not taking the keys and not going to be living in that unit so no water and no heat would be used and I was going to take legal action. She explained there was nothing she could do. I left the keys and wrote to their corporate office. In other words they wanted us to continue to pay the water and electric bills until our lease was up (1 1/2 months) when we wouldn?t even be in the townhouse. This infuriated me. After writing a letter to the corporate office stating no judge in this land would side with them. We had been good tenants and paid our rent on time every month and were quiet and considerate to our neighbors. I told them they should want to attract tenants like us. We paid our rent even though we weren?t there for 1 1/2 months and if I needed to hire an attorney I would. They didn?t want any part of this because they knew we had fulfilled our lease in accordance to the laws at that time and backed down. Stand up for your rights there is the Landlord Tenant Act and it is for your protection.

Other than those things the townhouse was beautiful and spacious and we loved IT!!!! Management makes the whole experience and if they aren?t there for customer service it doesn?t matter how beautiful your home is.
