I have lived at La Bonne Maison for 5 years and let me tell you, it's time to go! YELLOW-BROWN water and mold does not merit $850-895/month for a 1 bedroom apartment, even if it is 850 square feet! There are ZERO amenities, other than a pool, which is either not open or not fit to swim in. If you check other rental websites, you will notice places that ask that kind of price have all the amenities, eg. washer/dryer in unit, pool(working), hot tub, fitness center, covered parking, cabana, and more. Apparently La Bonne feels that nasty water and mold make up for those things, and you should also be grateful to live there, puh-lease!
There has been no consistent management on-site off and on for the last 4 years or so, and when things are asked to be fixed, it takes months to get done. I have had numerous neighbors that have barky little dogs, tear the place up, and then they move in yet another tenant with yet another barker. I am a night owl, so noise doesn't usually bother me, when a dog is yapping at 1:30 in the morning, there's a problem!
One other thing that I wish potential future residents to know before they consider signing a lease is that the area the apartments are located in has gone from bad to worse in the past couple of years. Two times in one month lately, I counted at least 8 police cars from the patio on the side-street trying to catch some criminal, the last time there was a helicopter with lights, and police dogs as well. The commotion was actually caused by someone in the complex across the street, but I would just like to say, this isn't really a nice, safe area! Gun shop on the other side, on Hwy 99, hmmmmmmm.
If after reading all this, you still think $850-895 is reasonable, by all means sign up! But don't say you weren't warned.

I just went by the office to check to see how much it would cost me to renew my lease. It gets worse - the $850-$895 is for SIX MONTHS only - then it goes up to "market" ($950 for a 1br, 1180 for a 2br). The complex is fast to state how far "under market" they are priced but they are not ready to admit how short on amenities they are.
Keelers corner (a mile up the street) is offering the same room for the same "market" price on their apartments but they have been remodeled in the last year, some of the apartments boarder wetland preserves, there is a walking trail, they have an actual staffed office, two pools (one indoor and one out) a theater, a cabana, basketball court and many others. I *do* see parking being an issue there, but I'll rent a carport for $30/mo. I also spoke to a local business yesterday who has been in the area for 15 years (the dentist that is on the corner and backs up against the apartments) and she said the apartments haven't changed in the 15 years she's been here. if anything they look more dilapitated. |

I just looked up the Keeler's Corner Apt you mentioned and a 1 br cost a minimum of $925-1,110.00 for 767ft and the reviews were terrible lot's of cars stolen etc. I searched online & the only complaints I found regarding the La Bonn Mason apts was on this site. I even spoke with a person that works for the city of Lynnwood & also checked with The Washington state department of health, they all said there have been no toxic mold complaints nor lawsuits filed against the La Bonne Mason Apartments so if what you say is true can you please post pictures of this toxic mold? I haven't decided if I want to lease an apartment here or not yet so any proof you can provide would be helpful. Below I've included some information I found that might be helpful.

Printer friendly version of this information (PDF 275 kb)
During the 2005 legislative session, the Washington State legislature approved a bill , that requires landlords to notify their tenants about mold. Engrossed Senate Bill (ESB) 5049 (See especially Section 2 (12) (Effective 7-24-2005).
The Department of Health has developed this web page to provide you with the materials you need as a landlord to comply with this new legislation.

Mold can impact human health. For some, molds impact can be profound. Mold may trigger an attack in people with asthma. For people who are allergic to mold, exposure may cause allergy symptoms (not unlike hay fever). Mold and the mycotoxins they may produce are still a topic of considerable debate; however mold should not be tolerated in the space where you live.
Senate bill 5049 requires landlords to notify tenants about mold. Specifically, landlords must supply information to tenants about:
*
The health hazards associated with exposure to indoor mold
*
Steps to take to control mold growth in their dwelling units
