Complete crap

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
Got a place here because the rent was cheap when split 2 ways and it was all me and a roommate could afford. My credit was slightly below the acceptable so on top of 1st month's rent I had to pay an additional $1500 for deposits! Then we got an apartment that had some bleach stains on the carpet and paint splotches on carpet and doors. Made me wonder what they do with the previous tenant's security deposit' The place was always noisy, the other renters were not respectful, and there was a lot of loitering in the parking lots. I found out this place had some Section 8. I hadn't known this before signing the lease. The management team was very unconcerned about most of anything that you had to ask of them. Finally got sick of waiting for maintenance to come get rid of the mold in the apartment so we did it ourselves. Later they delivered pamphlets to everyone's door describing how to self-clean your house to get rid of mold and how to prevent it. Yeah, thanks. The whole tenancy ended when I found a notice on my door that someone had seen a dog entering and leaving the apartment and I did not pay a pet deposit so I had 10 days to pay $400 (I don't remember why it was so expensive but if I remember right, it was $400) or vacate. Now, this was my friend's dog. When she came over, she brought him with her every now and then, and is one of those dog mommy's that would never leave her doggy child in a car, etc. and her own place was not set up for company, so if I wanted to see her, she brought her dog in the apartment. He was not a messy dog by any means, and pretty much just lay down inside. He was never inside for very long, either. I thought ok I will go explain that its not a dog that lives here, and I'll see if my friend will make other arrangements for him when she comes over. Management did not care, and said that since I had an animal enter the apartment, regardless of if it is always there or not, I still have to pay $400. I told her that was ridiculous! Also, my lease was up in 2 months, and I was planning on moving, so I wasn't going to pay $400 when I am going to be leaving soon. So she said then I would have to vacate if they didn't get the pet deposit at the end of those 10 days. So guess what we did at the end of those 10 days' That's right. We packed up and moved out. We cleaned up as best as possible with such short notice, but it wasn't perfect. So, naturally I didn't get my security deposit back. I didn't think I would. But, then I get a bill in the mail from a collection agency, saying I owe over $800 in damages on top of another month of rent. There is NO WAY I am paying this place anything extra, they deserved much less than I paid for my rent and utilities, that is for sure. Just as a matter of PRINCIPAL.
Now I know what they do with the previous tenant's security deposit. They pocket it, and then make the next tenant suffer.
