You get what you pay for

When we moved into our apartment a year and a half ago, we were new to the area and in need of something quickly. Willshire Cove was close to my partner?s work, near amenities we needed, and near an elementary school. To top it off, the price was right. Alas, you get what you pay for!!!
The complex was not much to look at but it did appear clean and there was lots of space for a child to run and play. We were told that the two pools would be open throughout the summer and that a top-notch playground was being installed. Well, that first year, the only pool that ever seems to open did not open until almost July, and the second pool has never opened since we've been here, and in fact, no one I have spoken with in the complex has ever recalled it being opened. The promised playground has never materialized, but is still being promised to prospective tenants. The near-by school is the lowest scoring in the school district on the statewide standardized tests and one of the lowest in the entire region.
These problems pale however when compared with the condition of the buildings. Residents on the first floor of my building have told me horror stories of mold on the walls, sewage backing up into the kitchen sink and bathtub, and holes under carpets where the flooring has rotted away. One wonders why the place has not been condemned. With all the stories in the news about the dangers of building mold, we are on the fast track to look for a now place.
Scary, too, is the fact the pool is not locked with a security key to prevent unaccompanied children from entering it. I have taken my child several times and, although the rules say that children must be accompanied, they are able to unlatch and enter the pool on their own. I have seen pre-schoolers, and children from neighboring complexes enter freely. Will it take a drowning to have this practice corrected' I hope not.
It is almost impossible to find someone in the office here. The staff lasts no more than a few weeks, and even when it is staffed, the hours are such that working people are unable to pick up any packages left there by delivery or postal workers. Seldom open on weekends, and keeping "bankers hours" during the week, does not make it easy to connect with the office.
