Don't Rent Here, Poorly Managed

Shorewood Heights isn't well equipped to handle disabled people-- there's hardly any crossing dips in the sidewalks and there s no entrance ramps to apartment entrances for people that use scooters. There s no elevators in the buildings except in its community pavilion center. There s only one garbage facility for this entire massive complex-- people have to drive or take a long walk to dispose their garbage. The 2 bedroom apartments don t offer a lot of room and are poorly laid out for modern times -- 2 people will easily find themselves claustrophobic in a hurry after they re all moved in. There s little or no shelving in the closets and none in the tiny laundry machine nook. Be expected to build shelves to create a linen closet. Kitchens are very tiny. The staff is very rude, snooty & dismissive once you have signed the rental agreement. Snow & ice removal is non existent -- be prepared to be snowed in, especially in December to mid January. In the Fall & Winter, be prepared for plumbing and heating problems due to antiquated water mains and old boilers. The heat during our tenancy was shut off for up to a week at a time a few times. When there are plumbing pipe problems, the water may be shut off for 12 hours to 1 day -- be prepared not to be using a toilet at some point during the Fall or Winter. If you get a backdoor to an apartment, the door will be very drafty. Expect the majority of the neighbors to be rude & snooty -- they often don t care about being noisy. Kiss your "refundable" deposit goodbye. BEWARE of police speed traps going near Shorewood Heights -- you want to drive exactly 25 mph or face a $155 ticket. Overall, Mercer Island is a place full of rude, rich people and lacks public kindness.

HaHaHaHa... somebody feels the same way I do about the Shorewood Apartments. They have "awesome" promotions and advertisements, but once you are on their hook and signed the contract.... you are at their mercy. They are a rude bunch... yes, management I am talking about you.
One thing I don't agree with... I love living in Mercer Island and I have never found people to be rude or snobbish. Best suggestion from me is - rent from privately owned people. It is much easier to negotiate your contract and what is refundable and what is not. Good luck to everyone and do watch out for the speed limit in MI!!!
