Question everything after moveout!! Extra cleaning charges, pet charges, etc. should only be billed AFTER the non-refundable deposits made for these purposes are used, AND if somehow the apartment was left in such horrible condition that your refundable deposits had to be used also.


Request to be present at the move-out inspection and accompanty staff. Take pictures. Take notes.

Demand they comply with RCW 59.18.280, which states that your landlord must by law, return your deposits in full or provide a written explanation as to why ANY of it is withheld within 14 days of your moving out.

I know what you mean...I am dealing with them about desposits still after moving out almost 6 months ago. They are trying to say that my "pet deposit" was in fact a pet rent and they are not putting any of it towards cleaning, its --------.

Well, it's official. They did it to me, too. After having read this, I purposely made an EXTRA effort to clean my apt when I finally got out of the "Rapeside Apartments", doing everything they told me, bleach water, etc. In EVERY little corner, and they STILL found stuff to charge us for. ($200 paint "touch up"?? Give me a friggen break.) I am SO glad to be out of there and rid of those lying, scamming, money grubbing [booger heads].
