Large but lacking

I've lived here for several years. The units are large. They are remodelling them as people move out but the remodelling is just painting, new carpets and lighting.
They won't remodel if you are living in the suite. They only remodel if the unit is vacant. But they continue to raise the rent regardless of the state of the unit. They will not offer to upgrade anything in your unit. Some units have washer/dryer hookups but they will not make the upgrades for current tenants.
My car was stolen from the lot once and my storage locker was broken into twice. Lighting around the building is very poor.
They built new decks last year, very nice. The painted and recarpeted the halls and painted the unit doors and put up new numbers on unit doors. They need to replace some of the light fixtures in the hallways and clean the paint off of the hallway windows as it looks terrible.
The laundry rooms have machines that require a card which you fill with $ at the office. If they are closed, you are out of luck.
They just demolished the club house/office and are rebuilding. There was no notice given to me about this event.
They are also currently repiping all the units. Very little notice given to tenants and probably because it is a huge nuisance as the tenant is required to remove all personal items entirely from the bathroom and the closet with the water tank as well as items in and around the kitchen fridge and pipes.
I have a feeling they are thinking of going condo with this complex. Why else do all the upgrades in this market. They seem to be able to get tenants based on the location and size of the unit.
They are raising rents by the maximum amount that they can get away with when your lease is due.
Bottom line: Not a bad place to live. Nice access to I-5. Units are large and fairly bright. But I don't like the management. They aren't pleasant. I've been looking around in the area and have found better prices. If you don't need a pool or activity clubhouse then go somewhere else where you don't have to pay for something you aren't going to use. Don't let the pretty lake turn your head as you probably won't get a unit with a view of it. Make sure you negotiate on any improvements needed to your suite before you move in. They can afford new light fixtures and towel bars etc so make sure you get those done. It may not be a renters market but they still need to keep these units occupied so that they can pay for all the non-unit upgrades that are being done.
As I said before, they may be going condo eventually so if you are looking for long term keep this in mind

If you had any common sense and was so concerned about "going condo" then why not ask the owners/manager. Or even spending more time online looking through the owners website about how they DO NOT SELL OR CONDO CONVERT, then wasting time writing this garbage. Print this, walk into your management office and look them into the eye when you complain so that they can try to do something about it rather than just complaining to some nameless person you will never meet. Stop turning away good potential neighbors and help make your community a better place. Call other communites around you and see what you COULD be paying!
HAve a great day and I hope not to have the pleasure of meeting you in the parking lot.

We've never had our car or storage unit broken into. My only recent complaints are lack of lighting and parking spaces in the lot. I work graveyards and some nights get out at 4am and it's really upsetting to have to park on the other side of the complex and walk in the dark, not being able to see where you are going to get back to your apartment. I had to call Mountlake Terrace PD once because I was being followed, so I ran back to my car and drove off and waited for them at the Shell Station a few blocks away.
The location is really nice and convienent and if you have small children, Chaselake Elementry School is a wonderful school!
As for the repiping... we were given plenty of notice (it was like a month before hand that we were warned). And we only had our stuff moved out of the bathroom, closet and kitchen for 5 days. It gave us a good reason to spring clean and it wasnt that bad of inconvience and we have small children.
As for the tearing down of the office and not being able to use the pool all summer was upsetting because we were given no notice and my kids were horribly disappointed at not being able to go swimming. Along with no notice....it was hard to figure out where the office was and at the time they were transitioning out the old bad staff with the nicer staff now so no-one then answered the phone...ever.
Im much happier with the new staff and we have recently re-newed our lease for another year.
My suggestion would be if you are here looking around, make sure you look at everything. We dont have one of the nicer, safer, newer balconies and some of the neighbors can be less than desirable. If you see someone in the parking lot ask them their opinion on living there. I know if Im stopped I'll be honest with you.

Just to give you an idea about the staff here, just look at the first response 08/24/2008. That was probably written by one of the staff, you can tell by the condescending manner in which they are a total -----. "Have a great day and I hope not to have the pleasure of meeting you in the parking lot" What's that about? I to had been promised multiple upgrades; stove, dishwasher, cabinets, counters, carpets, bathroom vanity light and bathroom tile. The stove and dishwasher came eventually, counters, carpets and bathroom light were good, no new tiles and the cabinets were just painted. It kind of pissed my off to be honest, especially since my moving in was persuaded by all these new things. And when they weren't done I went into the office and was told I could have $5 off my rent per month. Another incident happened in which I called a week before I had to renew my lease to let them know I was going to renew, and if I could come in the week after to sign the new lease, and if there was a problem I could make it in before, It was just inconvenient at the time. I was told "that's fine", and I was bow under the impression that there would be no problem. Apparently there was no problem for them, I got charged a month to month rent fee $100, which I was not told to pay on top of my old rent so I then got a late fee of $50. I thought there was some ill intent, but when I tried to explain what had happened I was told too bad, that's not what your new lease say's. So when dealing with the management just make them include everything they say in the lease you sign. It sucks we have to protect ourselves against crap like this, but we also need to understand they could get the short end of the stick too. I lived here almost two years but got fed up with the management and bought out of my lease.
