So far so good...

Moved here from Seattle and so far so good. My rent is lower than my last apartment while the apartment is 400 sqft larger. Nice, roomy, open floor plan. Nice neighbors. Great views of Mt. Si. Easy commute to Eastside. Nice area to live in. Great kitchen, decent sized garage. Good access to shopping and recreation in North Bend and the area.
At lease signing, I read all of the move-out costs and considerations. Having rented in MD, GA and CO and rented alot here in WA, I find WA landlords to be downright evil with charging these sort of move-out costs as well as deposits and the like. Surprising for a Left-coast state... I dislike these charged, but I am aware of them. Electric heat is another issue I have run into in other WA apartments. Better windows and noise insulation than my last apartment, but I am sure it will be pricy in the winter. In my experience, these things just seem to be part of the WA rental landscape...
Parking for me is not problematic - but I have only 1 car and I can actually park in my garage. If you have too much crap to park in your garage or if you have more than 2 cars, parking is hellacious. This place was designed for 2 cars per townhome - no more and it was designed for garage usage for parking. People resort to parking in firelanes (which literally cover ALL curbside parking) often on the weekends.
Very pet friendly. No pet rent. Most folks like dogs. But if you hate dogs or pets, I would suggest elsewhere.
Compared to my other rental apartments and houses in Washington, I am pretty happy. I plan on staying here long enough to amortize the move-out costs, but we will see. If not, I have legal counsel. :)

The source of my legal counsel also has deep legal pockets. Although they did not do so hot against the DOJ. ;)
I am not too worried about it. I accept Washington rental companies rip you off on move out. Sad but true. Not true in the other cities I have lived in (Atlanta, Chicago, Denver) but true here. Oh well.
It would be an interesting topic to take to the Attorney General's office and the BBB though. Or an investigative report by a local news outlet... hmmm...

Trust me Legal Counsel will not help you. Rock Creek Ridge has very deep pockets and also has plenty of legal counsel, who do you think wrote the contracts for them regarding move out cost and considerations? Apartment complexs always nickel and dime you on the way out.
