You get what you pay for

I've lived in these apartments for almost a year now. We pay very low rent for a good sized two bedroom apartment. We moved in the summer time so the complex seemed nice and cheery. The pool was nice but usually pretty crowded. Part of the reason our rent was so low is due to the poor condition of our carpet (so they told us). We knew that they would leave the old carpet in the unit in exchange for less rent, but what they didn't tell us was that new carpet only cost $10 extra a month! They lead us to believe there would be a huge diference in rent if we kept the stained worn out carpet, so we accepted it, and they left the carpet as it was (without even a simple vaccume or shampoo!!!). Be careful when you talk to the management becasue they will tell you whatever will get you to move in.

As soon as winter came the apartment atmoshpere changed. There was mildew all over the window frames and certain parts of the walls. Management brushes it off as "something we all have to deal with in Western Washington" and suggest that it be cleaned weekly. I personally don't feel like scrubbing your windows and walls with bleach every week is something that we have to deal with in Western Washington. The mold is due to the horribly thin windows installed in most of the apartments. Expect you electricity bill to be around $100 a month if you plan to use your heat. The baseboard heaters are conviently located right under the thin windows allowing the heat to go right outside. We solved this problem with blankets on the windows and a portable heater. Much better than a huge electricity bill, but certainly inconvient.

Overall the apartment units are big and very affordable. It ws very enjoyable in the summertime. They are currently doing renevations on the complex to fix the mildew. In time they plan to install double pane windows in all units. Do your research on these aprartments before moving in.
