I guess it depends on what area of the complex you live in but where I live its not that bad.
Parking= If you're coming home around 6 or 7, you might find your parking lot full but there is usually an extra one or two down near other apartments. You can pay for your own numbered slot or just leave it up to chance like I did. I've never had a problem with finding a spot since moving here last July. During business hours there's usually a few spots open. A lot of people work at the yard, so there's always a lot of cars parked in the lots during the day - because they take the bus to work.
Noise - I'm on the very bottom floor and you can hear every footstep. My neighbor likes to wash his laundry at midnight and when his washing machine gets lopsided it starts to bang against the wall and he doesn't care. Its right above my bedroom too. You can hear the garbage disposal, dishwasher, doors opening and closing and you can even hear him peeing above the bathroom. But you learn to tune all this stuff out the more you live in apartments. The side walls aren't a problem its just the ceiling that is thin.
Grounds= They hire landscapers to come mow the grass, trim the hedges, plant flowers, blow leaves, etc on tuesdays around noon. So if you dont like leaves and dust getting sprayed onto your clean car you might wanna buy a tarp for it.
Safety= Our front door has a nice big light that turns on at nights. There is lighting above the paid parking slots and somewhat around the parking lot, but there are no security cameras anywhere. Not in the leasing office, pool, tanning area, raquet ball court, mailboxes, etc. I've heard other people having crime problems in the complex, like people breaking into their cars frequently and break-ins, but this stuff hasn't happened to us since we've lived here. I always lock all my windows and doors, and my cars. There are also no security employees either.
Construction = There are videos and pictures online of the buildings. Overall it looks very clean and trimmed, no trash, garbage, etc. Although you may run into a big pile of dog crap on your way to your car.
Maintenance = I'd go to the landlord if something broke. When I moved in, my washer machine was malfunctioning (they just installed brand new GE washer/dryer in the apartment). They replaced my very nice washer with a 1980s model which can only hold about 5 pairs of jeans. It goes lopsided very easily and its very loud. I was really depressed when they replaced it. But atleast it works right' I had a refrigerator problem - wasn't staying cold and leaked ice everywhere. They tried fixing it numerous times but eventually had to replace it because it kept breaking (the same problem). This happened over Christmas so I was forced to put my food on the back patio (which was around 30 degrees anyway) until the employees came back to work.
It takes a few days for them to get your stuff fixed unless you tell them its a serious emergency, then they usually come out the next day or 2 days... I've had to go to the office to remind them on several occasions after about 5 or 6 days and no maintenance. They are pretty much always busy when it comes to peoples stuff getting broke.
Staff = The maintenance people are very nice courteous and clean.
The manager isn't too bad either but I think they make some empty promises.
They are supposed to get new tanning beds soon, according to them. The gym I've heard has gone downhill, things getting stolen, the bathrooms are always trashed, the equipment old and busted and the buttons falling off. So the gym doesnt look like the pictures online. Ask to see the gym when you go apartment hunting.
Overall = You have to realize that all apartments have noisy neighbors and things breaking. This is probably the cleanest most maintained place I've ever rented from (having started out in Cali). They keep up with the trash, and keeping the grounds clean. My sewer/water/trash/service fees come to about $60/month for the 2 of us. Water: 10.30 Sewer 30.00 Trash 15.00 Service 4.00
Pet rent is 50/month per pet (up to 2 per unit) There was a 200 deposit and a 200 non refundable. But I got to keep my cat so I didnt care.
Earlier this year we had bad problems with dog owners not picking up after their dogs, they would even let them crap in the parking lot and the walkways going from our front door to our cars. Crap everywhere... that came from large dogs. I dont know what happened... but there is no more dog crap. The tenants upstairs from me moved out last month and took their labrador with them so that might have been it. Its a little pricier compared to a gig harbor place i checked out, but this place was closer to the PSNS.
The units on the top floor get mounted LCD flat screens in the living room and bedrooms. They get nicer countertops and hard wood flooring in front of the door. They also get a fireplace.. but its very expensive. I'm on the bottom floor and it stays about 65 degrees in here in the summer months. On the top level... you're very hot.
Our pool is great - they keep it clean and I like to tan there poolside. Theres also a small hot tub they try to keep open 365 days per year. I've never used it but it looks great although I heard its been broken since last August.. checked it out today and the water was warm. The pool area opened back up this weekend and the pool will be clean and ready for May 23rd.
The leasing office is very nice looking. They have a mini kitchen in there and a mini theatre. Both of which I've never used.
Would I recommend this place' Yeah, just make sure you scope out which apartment you plan to move in ahead of time before you sign anything. Try to make an appointment before they close, later in the day around 4-6 so you can see people coming home from work and see if you agree with the commotion and neighbors. If they are trying to put you in the very far back, thats were a lot of small children are, they like to scream and yell on the weekends when their parents let them outside. If you are going to live towards the front near the street (sidney), I hear thats where all the crime takes place and break ins. Try to get an apartment near the leasing office and the pool and you'll be fine.
Overall if you're sensitive to noise (upstairs neighbors making loud footsteps, kids screaming on the weekends) then don't come here.
