The staff here is incapable of anything. They have taken away their right to collect rent even. We now have to mail our rent to Virginia - and with no extra time to allow for mail delivery either.
The maintenance staff does not understand the meaning of "call first" or "appointment". They just entered regardless of the fact that I made an appointment (and took off work to be there). They leave a mess behind them including footprints on the carpet and dirty finger prints on the doors. Non-emergency maintenance simply does not get done. We were told our damaged sliding door would be repaired - it has been a year, still not done. Our dryer broke and I had to threaten to go buy one myself before they finally swapped it out (allowable under WA law after 10 days by the way).
Complain to the leasing staff and all you get is "okay" and "I understand you are angry". Never a solution to any problem. They don't care if you stay because they will keep your entire deposit when you move out.
Don't be fooled by the $250 "amenity fee" they charge. There are NO amenities in this building. The fitness equipment is outdated and non-functional. The elevator is slow. The carpets are always filthy in the halls. An occasional vacuum would be nice, but scraps of paper sit in the halls for weeks on end.
The folks at Avalon don't know what the market rent is in the area - there are 3 brand new buildings coming on the market within the next 18 months that are charging lower rents for nicer facilities and an even better location (i.e. NOT directly on the bus route.) The noise and dust that others complain about is very real (and I live on the courtyard side of the building).
Also, a light has been out on the outside of the building for months and it has not been replaced. Apparently no one who works here cares to notice. The building construction is cheap and shoddy. The windows won't stay open because the frame isn't straight.
I would avoid ALL Avalon Communities with a vengeance. I have lived in four of their properties (2 in WA and 2 in CA) and have had similar problems at all of them. They do not care about their residents and they don't care if you stay.
