Staff prone to mislead but are eager to apologize

Avalon at Bear Creek offers reasonable rates for fair sized apartments in a nice location. While the staff was often friendly and courteous, I caught them fibbing on several occasions. Presented with the facts, the staff was eager to apologize and in some cases rectify their wrong-doing.
The first "miscommunication" was on my move in date. I requested the beginning of the month which was a few days earlier than they had planned. A staff member told me, "Although I could get in trouble, I'm mark your move in date as the 1st." A few days later I stopped by to verify a couple things and noticed that my start date had never been changed to the first. Somehow the person I talked to "forgot" and I would have to move in on the seventh (give or take). They apologized, no big deal.
The next time we didn't see eye to eye was when they "forgot" to tell me my countertops and carpet where drastically different than the apartment they originally showed me. Seeing as I was in the process of picking out colors for my place this was a pretty big deal. They apologized again and let me look at a different apartment, with the correct colors. Again lame, but nothing too outrageous.
Next was a long dispute over an old washing machine I had on my porch (ground floor facing the woods). I won't go into gory details but needless to say, I got a letter telling me I had 10 days to remove the washer. No big deal, I call some people to have them pick up the washer and they tell me to leave it next to the dumpster, they'll pick it up in the morning. Next thing I know, I've got a threating phone call from the Avalon staff telling me I can't dump things at their dumpster and that if I don't get rid of the washer immediately they're going to terminate my lease. I call them back furious for making me get rid of a washer that they never had the right to do and then threating to terminate my lease despite the fact I was compiling with their wishes. They apologized again and gave me a $25 gift check for a miscommunication between two staff members which sparked the uproar.
I've also had several problems with people parking in the parking spot I pay for and no one returning my phone calls for service. Of course, more apologies.
Finally the time has come for me to move out, but I'm on a month to month lease before I go. That means I'm paying an extra $250 AND since I didn't tell them I was moving out before the 10th, they're making me pay for an extra three weeks of an apartment I'm not living in. Legally they have a right to do so, but considering their poor performance in the past, I would expect them to be more tolerant.
Apparently when they screw up, it's enough to just apologize; but when tenants do, time to rake in the fees! Be careful to follow the letter of the law and you'll probably be okay.
