Stated in your lease "Upon notice of termination...you will be given a cleaning checklist...Before the resident moves out it is the MUTUAL (meaning if one doesn't the other will) responsiblity community manager and the resident to arrange a time for... inspection."
1. Was not given a checklist. 2. Didn't request a walk through - Why didn't the community manager request one when I handed her my keys and said "It's all cleaned out, do you need anything else'"
So I got charged a $100 cleaning fee beyond my deposit. I requested by phone, letter, in person a description of the cleaning that needed to be done. Didn't have the time or the courtesy to send anything.
After being sent to collections - it is my fault because I didn't request a walk through. Benson Downs doesn't have to prove that any cleaning was done. Just a circle on the form and I have to pay. How is that good business'
I promise my apartment was clean. I scrubbed and washed everything. I even washed out the cupboards and refridgerator. You could eat off of the floor. I have never been charged a cleaning fee for the 5 apartment/houses I have lived in.

Why didn't you request a walk through? It is up to you as a renter to take the appropriate measures to ensure that you receive your deposit back. I always request walk-throughs and keep the copy of the inspection sheet for future reference.
