At least it doesn't pretend to be a nice, classy place to live...

The apartment managers are fairly pleasant but I get the idea that the apartment owner(s) is/are cheap, cheap, cheap.

I'll list the pros and cons here:

Cons:
-Hallways stink. Did people not make it to the bathroom in time'
-Accepts Section 8 tenants, make of that what you will.
-Parking is a precarious task. The parking spaces are small and I worry about my car being broken into.
-Noise from fights going on at night. Usually happens with the 20-something year old boys late at night.
-Freaking hot apartments. Summertime is absolutely miserable.
-Apartments that face the road are *noisy*. Combined with hot temps and no window screens/sliding glass door screens, this makes for a lot of restless summer nights.
-2 apartment buildings have elevators, 1 does not. Climbing up 3 flights of steep stairs with all of your stuff is pure hell. :)
-Grounds aren't kept up very well. I think apartment maintenance could rent a power washer or two and get this place looking fairly decent.
-No pool or "amenities" of any kind.

Pros:
-Fairly quiet (with the exception of the jerks yelling curse words at each other and fighting).
-Close to QFC and Safeway.
-Great location - easy to get to Bellevue, Seattle or Renton. Lots of "back roads" help you avoid the I-405 traffic.
-Neighbors are *really* nice people.
-Newcastle police are very close and very responsive.
-Great elementary school for kids (close by).
-Close to bus line, Target, Factoria Mall, movies, etc.
-Apartments with elevators make moving so much easier.
-Rents are fairly cheap for Eastside apartments.
-Cable company usually forgets to come out and shut off the apartments that are vacant. :)

I don't know what was wrong with your apartment but I've lived here for 3 years and I've had a screen for my sliding door ever since late 2003. Never paid a dime for it either.
