Best apartment I've ever lived in

When I first read the reviews of Marina Landing on this site, I was a bit concerned that the complex?s management had somehow tried to influence the ratings; they just seemed to good to be true. Having come from a ?60s-style mega-complex in Seattle where the management was downright scary, I had pretty low expectations. Now that I?ve lived at Marina Landing for a few months, I now understand why it?s rated so highly? it really is a great place to live.
From my perspective, the best thing Marina Landing has going for it is its management team. Maybe it?s because they like me, but they have always known my name and my apartment number since the day I moved in. I?ve had nothing but stellar encounters with all three of them. The maintenance guys are also friendly and very competent, which is evidenced by the excellent condition of the apartments, grounds, and clubhouse.
As far as the residents are concerned, they?re actually quite a diverse group. Some people in my building could be a tad friendlier, but they certainly aren?t rude. It seems like most units are occupied by single professionals and couples, although there are definitely some families with children, too, as well as some ?weekend dads.? It?s not the kind of place where screaming rugrats abound, however, which I really appreciate. People with dogs also seem to be respectful of others, and I?ve never once seen dog poop around.
The apartments themselves (at least the re-done ones, which include all new rentals) are much nicer than most in the same price range: fireplaces with mantles, maple cabinets (real wood), crown molding and chair rail, nice lighting, and nice white interior doors. (This is starting to sound like their ads on Craigslist!) It?s much better than what I came from ? it feels ?condo quality,? in fact. The units are compact, but their layouts are efficient. Just don?t expect to put a grand piano into the living room. The only thing I would improve upon is the quality of the carpeting, but I think it?ll be fine if they replace it on a regular basis.
Being next to the lake is truly wonderful, with one exception: as the summer progresses, I?m noticing that people coming to Coulon Park are starting to park in the ?free? spots near my building, and are also dumping their trash in the dumpsters. Not sure what could be done about that, but I?m thinking the 4th of July weekend will be particularly bad. Nonetheless, I still feel very safe at Marina Landing, especially since they have a night patrol. And being near the lake (with a view of it, no less) is simply amazing. I LOVE coming home from work.
I think the biggest compliment I can pay to Marina Landing is this: if my unit was a condo, I would buy it in a second. In fact, I do plan to buy my own place in a year or two, but I will certainly miss the comforts, convenience, and location of Marina Landing.
