Nice grounds, great staff, but noise travels

I??m a new resident to Washington and have been living here since October ??05. The grounds are really nice (especially in Autumn) and I like the covered parking. I??ve read some of the other reviews and was surprised to see negative ratings of the office staff??to me they have always been excellent--nice, courteous, and helpful (however, my contact is usually limited to picking up packages and small requests??have had no major issues). They did hold my mail for me while I was on vacation.
I haven't really had any maintenance requests so I can't rate how well their maintenance service is, so I just rated it average.
I think my apartment was renovated just before I moved in, because all the appliances and the cabinets seem new. This is really nice, however the kitchen drawers are not the best quality (constantly running off track; don??t sit centered). I??m in a 1-br so I have a ??stacked?? w/d, and the washer tub is incredibly small??even for an efficiency size.
The bedroom area is one of the largest I had found when apartment hunting. The apartment price is a bit on the high side (compared to others), but you are also paying for the location (right across from the park). I regret not dishing out a bit more to get a partial park view. The apartment also has small features that add to the price, such as the centered trim molding and the textured, twin-colored walls; but if you??re not into those details then it may not be the best value for your money.
Overall I??ve enjoyed my stay so far and would recommend this complex, however the biggest drawback is the noise. Not noise around the location??it??s a pretty quiet neighborhood. But I??m in a bottom apartment (by request), and I can easily hear when my neighbor??s bathroom fan is on or when they drain their tub (if I??m in my bathroom). When I??m in bed at 5:30 am I hear it when the paperboy tosses the paper and hits the outside wall. Sometimes it feels like my entire room shakes if someone upstairs slams their outer door. I can always hear it when people go up and down the stairs outside. (Although, footsteps in the apartment above me don??t seem to be a problem, and I believe that apartment is occupied.) Sometimes when I??m in bed at night I can hear it when my neighbors cough. Its not like this noise is constant, but it is definitely noticeable??especially people walking on the stairs.
