The noise level between apartments is a huge issue - you can hear everything. The sound of water for showers, toilets, etc is also very loud. When my roommate is showering I have to turn up the TV just to hear it (and I can't turn it up loud enough to drown the noise out.) Our downstairs neighbor's bedroom is below our living room and kitchen, so ANY noises after 10pm are an issue.
The management and maintenance staff are slow to make improvements and changes. You have to have a maintenance person come fix your dryer, which takes over 120 minutes to dry, several times before they will even consider replacing the appliance. Once they agree the replacement is needed, they do not move quickly. It took over 5 month to have our broken fridge replaced.
The new manager is incredibly dense and lost in his position. They keep changing the faces but the problems remain the same.
The buildings were built poorly and are slowly sinking. They are in the process of tearing down rotted walls, replacing balconies, due to poor building desing. Our apartment has several cracks and a leaking roof. In the event of an earthquake I'm certain we will be in grave danger.
Parking is ridiculous, there is absolutely no where to park after 7pm.
I can't wait until our lease is up.

Dear montclairsucks99,
Thanks for bringing these items to my attention. I wish I had a good answer for being able to hear through the walls and the way the units were constructed. I know that it can be sometimes tough to live in an apartment.
I feel that we have made vast improvments on the timeframe to get maintenance requests completed. Sometimes, repairing an appliance does take a couple of tries before we ultimately can replace it; however, if it does need replacing, we will replace it. I am unaware of your five month broken fridge situation as I started March 2008. I am terribly sorry you had to wait five months.
I am concerned with your comment about me being dense in my position. I know that not every decision I make is going to make everyone happy, but I do try to make reasonable decisions based on all the information that I have. If for some reason you do not think I have made a good decision, please come in and talk with me. I will always listen and will take that option into consideration when making my decision. I have been in property management long enough to know how to do my job and that sometimes the best ideas come from my residents since they are the ones that live here.
I cannot help the sinking of building, but we are replacing many decks, stairtowers and landings so that the building do not crumble to the ground. I hope you feel a bit safer now.
I just recently reserved parking spaces for those apartments that do not rent garages so that at least everyone has a place to park when they come home. Hopefully that takes away some of the parking problems we have had in the past.
Please let me know if I can help make your stay here better. I hate to see a good resident leave. Come in and talk to me.

Ben - you are deluding yourself. This response is childish and unprofessional. It is obvious that your 'years of experience' have not given you enough insight at to how to properly do your job. You are going to lose all of your quality residents. We talk here and everyone that I've spoken to since you've taken over has nothing positive to say about you in the least. Julie could run this place and Courtney is positive and professional. You are doing a poor job all-around.

Anonymous, THANK YOU! I've been an apartment resident in several different complexes throughout the state of WA for nearly 20 years. I have NEVER, and I mean NEVER, experienced thin walls such as these. In regards to your work as a manager, you DO NOT listen, and are rude. I am more than happy to talk to Julie and Courtney, they at least listen to the complaints and show understanding and offer insight. As for the safety of the building, our decks haven't been replaced, and I'm not really sure how replacing items on the outside of the building increase the structural integrity of the building. As for the parking situation, it is actually worse for me. With the 'luxury' of a garage I have to pay for, I don't receive the reserved free spots that everyone else is now getting. With all the spots reserved, either my roommate or I have nowhere to park within the complex. Maybe you should have renovated the parking lot to include MORE spaces. There are a few places where good planning would allow for more spaces. Or maybe the apartment complex should start renting the mulitiple garages they have filled with their stuff to allow for more parking. There is nothing YOU can do to make my stay better. I will take my steady on-time rent to a complex that actually responds to clients with respect in person as well as in writing.
